on stage eleven Cadel Evans' BMC racing team were the perfect example of a well-drilled team
which controlled their environment as much as possible
each stage of the Giro challenges the team to look after their leader as much as possible
on and off the bike
at the sign-on, the BMC team are the only ones to arrive together
on stage eleven BMC clearly have a plan in place to help Evans
throughout the day, as Steve Cummings explains
Just the same really, keep him out of trouble
and keep supporting him
he looks really good, really strong
the best shape he's ever been I think
keep him out of any trouble
four hours and one hundred and eighty kilometers later
the staff of BMC are waiting at the finish line to do their part for the team
on occasions, it can be an anxious wait. We're at the finish of stage twelve today
so we're waiting for the riders to arrive
well we have one of the riders in front
it's a nervous situation
now we've just drinks with us, Fanta, Cola,
water, clothes
fast sugars
nothing special
the work starts as soon as the riders cross the line as the soigneurs try to protect them from the media
and give them time to compose themselves
the next challenge is the podium protocol and BMC of course have the variables covered
well because of the Italian rider
the right always has to bring the Italian riders to the podium
because they want to have the rider for the television
then we have to prepare the riders, clean them up and everything so they can go straight to the
television
we go with him to the doping control as well in case we have someone on the list or
someone with a jersey that has to go. As the protagonists of the day are swamped by the media
it sometimes gives the overall hopefuls
a time to calmly collect their thoughts. On other days they're not quite so lucky
A day for the breakaway
took a while to go with the headwind but more a day to
sit back and try and
save a bit of energy whilst keeping an eye on
the other GC guys
legs are a bit sore from yesterday. I think everyone's were. They certainly came here with a really well prepared and
focussed team, so obviously they showed
in Trentino and here they have the guys in the mountains
yesterday I expected a little bit more of them
but a long way to go yet
by keeping their riders calm and controlling their environment
BMC are going a long way to keep their leader on the podium, but time will tell
