In the Name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.
Those who have Fear of Allah, from among His servants, are those who have knowledge (Scholars). Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Forgiving.
May Allah Preserve all of our progeny. Thank You Sheikh. Due to the lack of time, in brief, can you share with us your search for knowledge, from your early ages till now.
All Praise is due to Allah. As I have mentioned before (last episode), My Father was behind me seeking knowledge in my early ages, except for the memorization of the Qur'aan.
He taught me Fiqh Shafii', books such as Safinah (An-Najah), Abu Shujaa', up until Al-Minhaaj.
All of it. As far as Tafseer, he taught me from Surah Al-Fatihah (Chapter 1) till Surah Maryam (Chapter 19). He also taught us Sarf (Morphology).
He also taught us 40 (Ahadith of Nawawi), Mukhtasar of Ibn Abi Jamrah, & Riyaad As-Saaliheen.
After that, he sent me to my uncle, Sh. Yusuf Saeed Ali Dhuux. I was with him for a while.
I learn from him the Mukhtasar of Saheeh Al-Bukhaari, as well as the books of Nahw (Arabic Grammar)
up until the Chapter of Jam' Takseer (Broken Plural) of the Book Sharh Ibn Aqeel of Alfiyat Ibn Maalik.
He also taught me the brief Aqeedah (Theology) books.
As well as the brief Mustalah Al-Hadeeth (Science of Hadeeth) books up until Baa'ithul-Hatheeth.
He also taught me the book Ar-Rahabiyah in the science of Al-Faraaid (Inheritance).
He used to teach me something call Fann Al-Mutaala'ah (Science of Reading). He used to give me a book,
without stressing the importance of it being understood or not, but the importance of it is was to finish reading the book in a specific time that he would give me.
Then I left, & I move on to school education. I went into an exam, & started from Secondary School (High School). It had a big bookstore.
But before that level, Sh. Muaawiyah Haji Mohamud (May Allah have mercy on Him),
taught us the Introduction to Saheeh Muslim, as well as Alfiyat As-Suyuuti & Alfiyat Al-'Iraqi in Mustalah, in a fast-paced manner.
After that, I joined the University of Madinah .
There was a time between the secondary school & the university in which I studied in secondary school (high school) part-time for 8 months.
After that I entered the university level, in which I studied in the college/faculty of Hadeeth, the 4-year program. Also, I studied in the Haram (of Madinah) under Sh. Abbad, as well as Sh. Mohamed Mukhtaar (Ash-Shanqeeti), who used to teach Buluugh Al-Maram & other lessons in Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) in the University. As well as other Shanaaqitah (Maurtanian) Scholars that used to teach in the Haram (of Madinah) in which learned book from.
After we graduated, we went into the field of Da'wah, & after you go into the field of Da'wah, seeking knowledge never ends, as we were after reading books in libraries, in brief.
When we were putting together this program, we asked the students what would they like to ask you, & some had hope to ask you which mutoon (books) have you memorized? If you can answer that.
All Praise to due to Allah. When it comes to memorizing mutoon (books), when you get older, a lot is forgotten.
Now, I can't say for sure that I memorized it perfectly, for I have tried myself, nor have I reviewed it, but when it comes to Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence), before I've memorized these Manthuumaat (poem)s, such as Az-Zubad from amongst them. As far as Usuul (Al-Fiqh), then Al-Waraqaat, & Al-Kawkab Al-Saat'i.
And for Mustalah (Al-Hadeeth), Alifyat Al-'Iraaqi & Bayqooniyah, & these other Manthuumaat (poems), in which we used to (memorize) a lot. As for as Nahw, Alfiyat ibn Maalik, &'Imriiti, & Mulxatul-I'raab.
But now we have gotten into teaching, & mostly we remember what we need (to use as evidence). If we still have it memorized or not, is something I don't know, for somebody to listen to us or test us, is one we haven't done it yet, & we probably have forgot it.
I haven't counted it, but some of these manthumaat we have done such as Qawaaid Al-Fiqhiyyah for Abdirahman ibn Nasir As-Sa'di & Al-Faraaid Al-Bahiyyah, as well as the manthumaat for Adab (Literature) (known as) the Mu'laqaat.
We have memorized a while ago, but now what is still memorized & what is forgotten, I believe a lot of it (is forgotten), if you tell me to spill it all at once. But the places I need to know, for the most part I remember it.
'May Allah reward you' There is another question, that is important, in which the viewers hopefully will take you as a role model. Sheikh, how old were you when you memorized the Noble Qur'aan?
All Praise is due to Allah. From what I remember, the place where I used to live was an unsafe area along with the fact that we were unsettled, due to the many wars when I used to memorize the Qur'aan in Dugsi (School).
I remember when I memorized the first 20 Juz' (At-Tawbah -- An-Naas) at the hands of Teacher Ali, Abdullahi, & Deeq, I was 10 years old. Then a war broke out, so for a period of 1.5 years to 2, people were busy running away & moving around.
I remember when I was 12 years old, I started again memorizing & reviewing the Qur'aan, & took me about a year or so. So I can estimate that I finished memorizing the Qur'aan around the age of 14.
