Do you know how to know if your foot is broken?
Did you drop something heavy on your foot before screaming?
No, but I worry if I’ve broken it.
You could have broken the foot by slipping or twisting it, like falling in high heels.
Or if you stepped on the curb with a lot of force on a single bone.
I don’t know if I broke it or sprained it.
You can break a foot bone while spraining it, but it is usually caused by a sudden impact
or injury. Though a few people get stress fractures from overuse or osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis will cause a broken hip before it causes a broken foot.
If your bones are weaker due to a loss of calcium, all of them are more prone to breaking.
How can I tell if my foot is broken instead strained or bruised?
An X-ray is the only way to be absolutely sure. Pain when you try to walk on it, even
after a few days, is a good sign.
Or a bad sign.
Can you walk on a broken foot?
With a broken toe, yes, especially if it is held immobile with tape. For a broken bone
in the foot, you shouldn’t put pressure on it.
I heard of buddy taping toes. If my foot is broken, will I end up in an ankle wrap?
You may end up with a plate in your foot holding the broken bones together. Then you get the
really big boot on your foot to redirect force while you walk on it.
You could sign my foot-cast.
That’s done sometimes. Or you’re put in a protective boot and given crutches.
I’ll look like I got injured on the ski slopes.
Is that a better story than how you actually injured it?
Uh, yeah.
