This is Governor Steve Beshear ... About Kentucky.
In a global economy where well-paying jobs demand a high-quality education, it’s critical
that students graduate from high school ready for the next step.
In Kentucky, we’re implementing aggressive measures to prepare students to transition
to college and career.
That’s why under a new agreement among three state education partners, high school students
can now earn college credit for approved career and technical, and general education courses.
This partnership will help us motivate students to stay in school by increasing the relevance
of their coursework ... while inspiring them to tackle and master more challenging courses.
Thanks to this initiative, students will see a direct path to a broad range of opportunities,
whether it’s a successful career or other postsecondary options. It will also reduce
costs and speed a student’s path to a certificate or degree.
Encouraging our students to explore technical careers and to further their education will
hold long-term benefits for our Commonwealth. And it will better prepare our students for
jobs in the new economy. Providing students with the ability to earn college credits in
high school is part of that plan.
