Hey, I'm Keri Glassman, here with some quick and simple tips to help you feel just a little
bit better. Stop eating when you’re satisfied, instead of when you’re stuffed. It’s more
difficult than it sounds. You are probably thinking the only bad thing about a great
meal is looking down at your plate and seeing there’s nothing left to eat. Many of us
automatically finish everything on our plate at every meal, without even thinking about
it. I’m going to ask you to actually think about it. A meal should be over when you’ve
eaten just enough, period. Whether that’s a plate and a half or six small bites depends
on many factors that are going to be different at every meal. The trick is determining when
you’re actually slightly satisfied. Your body needs about 20 minutes before it knows
it’s full. So slow down. After every few bites put your fork down and drink some water.
If you let your body catch up with your brain, you can find out you’ve had enough before
it’s too late, and you've overeaten. It’s easy in theory, but it’s not automatic,
so it may take some time before it becomes ingrained. And it may seem weird at first
to stop eating when there’s delicious food right in front of you. Well, that’s what
zip top bags were invented for. And the benefits to stopping when you’re slightly satisfied
are huge. You’ll eat only what you need to eat, and eating slower is even better for
digestion. Not only that, you can sit and enjoy a meal longer, which means more time
with your family and friends. So remember: Stop eating when you’re slightly satisfied,
regardless of how much food is on your plate, and you’ll feel just a little bit better.
