Mark your language
Marking the language that is used in your Word document
allows you to access the dictionary of that language
and allows people who use screen readers (text to speech) to hear it pronounced better
Here is an example of a document that uses more than one language
At the moment
the text that's in French hasn't been marked as such
so there are loads of red lines under the text
These red lines indicate spelling mistakes
but only if Word is using the correct dictionary
and if you listen to the text using text to speech
it will sound a little like this [bad pronunciation...]
Let's mark the French text
First highlight it
(Remember: triple click in Word highlights a paragraph)
Click the review tab and then in the proofing group click the set language icon
Now choose French (France) and click ok
There's immediately a reduction in the number of red lines
Those there can be corrected by right clicking the word
and it will suggest corrections from the French dictionary
You don't need to work out how to type an accent!
and how does it sound?
Here it is... [paragraph is spoken by French voice text to speech]
There you are!
That's all from Anne Dickinson
