“My name is Mohammad Miloud Benhammed, I am the vice president of Mitiga missing persons
group here at Mitiga Hospital. “The topic of missing persons is a hard
and complicated one, it needs effort, you have to work at it day and night.”
“Why here at the hospital? Well, due to certain events in Tripoli, we found so many
people passing through here who were looking for their missing.
‘I can be useful to you by giving you the Martyrs names and pictures’
“The group’s members are all voluntary, some are computer engineers, civil servants
for social issues, the group consists of many different people from society.”
‘What’s the solution? Do you want me to connect you to a doctor to handle this matter?
He is trustworthy, he is from my group.’ “The tragedy of missing persons is quite
a big problem for Libyan families these days, most families lose hope, but we tell them
to keep their faith in god because such situations need a steadfast nerve.”
“The abundance of missing person offices around is not a problem, some think it is
but it isn’t; it’s a positive, people everywhere can head to an office local to
them.” ‘The first point which I would like to discuss
between us, is to exchange the names of missing people between Misrata and Tripoli.’
“Key for the group is to visit other places outside Tripoli. Today was the first trip
for research outside of Tripoli to Misrata city. Misrata is known to have lost a massive
number of its people.” “The key point is to join with missing people
offices in Misrata city.” “This work requires persistency, we will
certainly continue, we won’t stop, however this work requires funding, funding which
is obtained from certain people.” “It comes from local people, from friends,
personal donations, from the volunteers at the group. We have bazaars in partnership
with other organizations. We thank god there is sufficient revenue from these activities
to cover the groups overheads.” “I would like to send this message to families
of missing relatives, do not lose hope. Keep looking; go to all the missing person offices,
including ours. We have helped 52 families to find their Martyred friends and family
members.” “We put appeals on radio and TV for families
to go and look for their missing, particularly at Mitiga hospital. These offices exist and
many other offices all over Libya. I would like to tell them to head to these offices
and use them to help simplify the search for you.” “I feel so proud of this humanitarian work
which is offered to all Libyans; to help return their missing loved ones back to their family.”
