People waiting in line is a common site at the checkin counter in most hotels.
However, at Clairon Hotel Stockholm this will become a thing of the past,
when thanks to NFC technology guests can check in remotely instead.
The guest experience with the mobile keys is basically not having to queue at reception -
just slipping past, going up to the room and starting to enjoy the hotel experience.
Clarion cooperates with ASSA ABLOY and three other companies in a trial
where the hotel room keys are replaced by mobile phones, with a technology called
Near Field Communication, or NFC.
What makes this trial unique is that it's the first complete solution for hotels using mobile keys in the world.
The hotel reservation is made as usual through the web page of the hotel, or through a travel agency.
On the day of arrival, a welcome text message is sent from the hotel with a web address
where you can check in wherever you are.
The check in is confirmed instantly, and the room key is sent to your mobile phone.
When arriving at the hotel, you can pass the front desk and go directly to your room.
The door is unlocked simply by holding the phone against the lock.
When leaving the hotel you can do a self-checkout as well,
by simply touching the check-out point next to the front desk and then touching a confirmation button.
Basically the advantages for us as a hotel and the staff here is that we can spend more time with each individual guest
Soon you will actually be able to open not only hotel doors, but also doors to your home and to your office using your mobile.
