Tags are words, terms and phrases used to describe people and activity on AshokaHub.
Anytime you see a little gold or white star alongside a word or phrase, you are looking at a tag.
You can use tags to describe yourself as well as your Offers, Needs, Events, News and Ideas.
You can also follow tags.
Let's say you are viewing this Need.
You can see that some of the stars are yellow, while others are white.
A yellow star means that you are already following this tag
while a white star means you are not yet following the tag.
To follow the tag, simply click on the white star.
You can also start to follow the Need itself. Then you'll be notified if it is updated
or if someone else responds to it.
The new activity will show up in your Email Digestand in your activity feed.
Following people essentially works like following tags, so if you usually like what Abby puts
up on AshokaHub, follow her!
Remember, you can make AshokaHub most relevant to you personally by following the tags that
interest you.
Likewise, you can help the right people find you and your activity by adding tags to your
profile under the "Edit Profile" page.
There will always be a set of Ashoka's tags.
These include Regions and Countries, Target Populations and Fields of Work.
It is helpful to add tags from these sets because it is more likely that people are
already following the tags you see here.
To add tags you don't find in Ashoka's existing taxonomy, you have the option to add Free Tags.
Those are original words or phrases that you add.
