>> MALE: One of the things you never want to see happen as a superintendent is to roll
out an initiative and it not be successful.
>> FEMALE: In the Spring of 2012 we had a stakeholder committee that met to look at
capital improvements strategic planning. One of their top priorities was around technology.
>> MALE: One of the big concerns that comes to my mind, do we have all the infrastructure
in place? Do we have the ability to ask the right questions? Do we have the right systems
in place to be able to support the technology?

>> Male: We went through a process of reviewing all of our network infrastructures in the
buildings. Teams from CDW and my staff visited every single building in the district and
did assessments on the network infrastructure, what needed to be changed in the wireless
infrastructure. Without the wireless upgrades that we just deployed, a one for one initiative
would not have been possible.
>> FEMALE: We serve students living in 14 different cities, which is a little bit unique
for this area. We have to be able to connect all of those 50-plus buildings through a single
network.
>> FEMALE: We were folding several projects into one, and we had a very aggressive timeline.
So the selection of the partner was really critical.
>> MALE: One of the key reasons we selected CDW as a partner was because of the manufacturers
that we had chosen — CISCO for our phone infrastructure and Aruba for our wireless
infrastructure. CDW represented both companies and had expertise in both areas. This allows
us to implement it all at once so we could accrue savings. Plus it allowed us a much
faster deployment.
>> MALE: This is not new for them, but it’s new to us in the school district. If you don’t
know what to ask, if you don’t know what systems to check, if you don’t know what
to look for, that’s a very dangerous situation. But to have CDW partnering with us, that relieves
those sleepless nights for me.
>> MALE: The individual Aruba components that we deployed were basically an access point
per classroom.
>> MALE: The Aruba controllers allow us to control the proprietary protocols that the
mobile devices were utilizing in the one for one initiative. ClearPass is the glue that
binds the Aruba controllers to the air group features in the system.
>> MALE: The AirWave management system allows us to monitor the health of the network and
improves reliability and availability to our staff and students, and also saves us staff
time.
>> FEMALE: Even before the district committed to this exciting digital learning initiative,
we were already hearing positive feedback just from the network improvements that we’ve
made. Staff members would stop me and they would say, “I love the new phones,” or
“I can get on the network so much more quickly with the improvements.”
>> MALE: When you understand the impact on students, when you see their faces, when you
understand that they’re seeing information and accessing knowledge that was not available
to them previously, that’s when we really know we’re successful.
