My name is Vicky Malin and I joined Candoco in 2008
So for me, that first step into wanting to learn more about dance was giving myself a challenge
I was 24 and i'de had theatrical experiences but I wanted to learn something formal in dance technique
to take something kind of from a personal and private, maybe dancing in a bedroom or a nightclub
into something more performance based
I feel that being on the Candoco foundation course for me was a rare opportunity that I really took advantage of in the best way,
I had 10 people studying with me so you can imagine the one to one support on that
course was phenomenal and I just really enjoyed everything I learnt there and then continued to develop with it
and I'm sad that that opportunity isn't there anymore to be honest
to perform the first solo for Candoco in their 20 year history
is an honor, it is also something that I wanted to do well, and that i'm constantly looking at improving, but it's brilliant.
The opportunity to work with Matthias Sperling has been fantastic because it's made me really
be thoughtful about my dancing and my material and my performance
he really gets you in to engage with the work and really think and be aware of what your body's doing
what your thought processes are, how you interact in the space with the people in the space
and that's something that I can use not only in the solo, but is
this is it but it store spans across
every peace the ID and will continue to do in the future
it's important to remind myself that
I have she live what I do and I have teen
when I go and teach I actually have to practice that myself and I think that's
really important to be an advocate
something you have to live it and do it yourself
so by continuing to develop myself as a performer and teacher
I can take their skills on to it with other people candy Co
always I'm pushing for their number one priority to be
making high quality work too tall with and teach with
so for us to be visible in a place like now open
is fantastic because it shows that we're just doing nothing with performance
company
and which out there
