When I compare Washburn to the other schools that I have attended for my undergraduate,
graduate and doctoral work,
a standout feature is that the
undergraduate students here are operating at the graduate level already;
the way they are conducting research,
the way they are presenting data
and the way they are speaking.
They are so far ahead of where I was
when I was finishing up my bachelor’s degree.
If I had had the preparation that these students have going into graduate school,
--man, I would have just taken off immediately.
Washburn students tend to be highly motivated
and we very hard to provide the personal attention
that sustains a highly motivated student.
We encourage students to get involved,
to conduct research,
to present at conferences and to explore different things.
There is a character and a seriousness to our students.
We have developed a culture to involve students early
because they can help drive our research as we help mentor them.
It’s a good thing because it keeps us focused on the undergrads
and it gives them opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise have.
