"Think About It" with Dr. Amjad Qourshah
Oh God, some people truly amaze you! What's going on?
Why do the majority of people look at the empty half of the cup.
They always complain that their living situation is tough, and that no one could be living in worse conditions.
Yet, if you studied their living situation, you would find that their situations is better than millions of people in the world!
Why don't we get out of this 'negative way of thinking' that we intentionally put ourselves into? Because in reality our situation is not bad at all.
Let's try to imagine and look at this from a totally different perspective.
Check out what Prophet Mohammad said (peace and blessings be upon him),
"Don't look at those who are higher than you, rather look at those who are lower than you, so that you don't disfavor God's blessings on you."
Meaning: in worldly affairs, don't look at those who are above you; because this will cause you to despise God's blessings upon you and lead you to consider these blessings insignificant - God forbid.
For example, instead of looking at who's living in a mansion and complain that you are still renting an apartment, you should look at the one who's living in a tent!
Instead of looking at the one who is driving a brand new car and become sad that you are driving an old car from the 70's, look at the one who doesn't even have a car!
Instead of looking at how your neighbor owns cars and properties, while you don't own cars or properties, remember that you have amazing, honorable kids - while your neighbor doesn't even have kids!
I now remember the famous Chinese proverb, which says, "I used to complain that I don't have shoes, until I met someone with no feet."
Another wise Chinese proverb says, "If we collected everyone's misfortunes and placed them in a basket, and we asked each person to select one of the calamities,
you'll find each person choosing his own misfortune."
This generally means, "When you see other people's problems, you find your own problem to be simple and light!"
There's an amazing story that an Egyptian scholar said in regards to his billionaire friend. His billionaire friend was driving in his luxurious Mercedes-Benz on the streets of Cairo.
And this billionaire is a decent and righteous man, unfortunately the man and his wife were unable to have kids.
The man was infected with numerous diseases and was constantly on medication. This prohibited him from eating many types of food. May God be with this family.
While driving in his Benz, the man passed by two simple men sitting on the side of the road.
And one of the two men shouted out, "Oh wow.. People living life to the max.. to the best!"
The man stopped his car and reversed to the two men. The simple man got afraid. So the billionaire said, "Don't be afraid.
I want to ask if you can eat." He replied, "Yes." The man asked, "Do you eat our traditional meal of beans?"
He replied, "Of course. I don't have any other option" The billionaire said, "I can't even eat our traditional meal of beans."
He then asked the simple man, "Do you have kids?" He said, "Yeah."
"How many?" "I have four."
"How's their health?" The simple man replied, "They're doing great and amazing!!"
The billionaire said, "I don't have any kids. Would you take my whole fortune in exchange for one of your kids?"
He responded nervously, "Get out of here!! I wouldn't even give you my kid's fingernail!!"
The end of story.
I now ask, "who's living life to the max?"
Do we now understand Prophet Mohammad's words (peace and blessings be upon him) when he said, "so that you don't disfavor God's blessings on you"?
I hope the moral was delivered, and that we - altogether - "Think About It".
