Hey everyone welcome to Photoshop Pro help, today I'm going to be teaching you this really cool aged paper effect, now its really fast and really simple to make
now there are a few things that you will be needing to make this effect, so lets jump over to it
you are going to be needing this paper which I found on sxc.hu which is a stock image website which I use a lot
so if you haven't see them, then go and check them out the link is in the description bar for this image
and if you don't want to do that then you can download all the source files
that you will need to make this effect from my website so that will also be in the description bar so check that out
so once you have loaded your image that you are going to use in Photoshop for this effect
we are just going to start work so let me jump over to my image
so we are going to go over to "image" then "adjustments" and the "black and white"
and that changes it to black and white, now we are just going to play around with the colours now
so we are going to go over to the "reds", just work your way down, so all these settings are going to be totally different for each image so your going to have to play around with this by yourself
so I'm just going to quickly do this because your going to have a lot more time than me
so I'm making things a little bit darker and maybe if you have tree's maybe a bit lighter
so we have the contrast, if you have a really cool sky like this I would probably just making it a little bit darker because we are going to lighten it up later
so once you have done that we are just going to click "tint" because we need that aged colour to it
so we are going to bring the "saturation" up a bit but not to much because we don't want it bright bright orange
so the "hue" is going to be around about "42" and the "saturation" is going to be around "26"
you can follow my settings on this one because they don't really change per image
so once you have done that you are going to click "ok" and once we have done this we are going to go over to the "paper"
and from here all your going to do is click the "magic wand tool"
and that can be hiding under the "quick selection tool" so just click and hold to bring up the menu and then press the "magic wand tool"
and we are just going to click the white behind the paper and then press "ctrl" + "shift" + "i" on our keyboard to inverse the selection
and then we are going to go up to the "move tool" on the left hand side and we are just going to drag the paper to our document
from here we are going to hold down "alt" + "scroll" to zoom out and then press "ctrl" + "T" to free transform
and we are just going to turn this around so its the right angel for this
and then we are just going to drag in so its the right size for this so you want to play around
and you want to make sure you have all the detain in the actual paper
so all the detail on the background image you want on the paper because we are cutting the rest off
so once you have done that we want to make sure we do have a little bit round the side to cut off
so once you have done that you are just going to click the "tick icon" at the top and that holds it into place
and we are just going to press "ctrl" on our keyboard
and click the little "thumbnail" of our "paper layer" which selects it
and then press "ctrl" + "shift" + "i" to invert the selection again and then double click the "background layer" so it becomes a editable layer
and then go and click "ok" and then we are just going to press "delete" on our keyboard so it deletes the background and cuts it out
then press "ctrl" + "D" to deselect and we are going to go back to the "paper layer"
and we are just going to go and change the "blending mode" to "multiply"
now its a bit dark at the moment so what we are going to do is go to our "background layer" at the bottom
and we are just going to go to the "adjustments" so go to the little black and white circle on the bottom right hand side, so click that
and we are just going to go up to "curves" now you are going to be playing around with the curves because these are going to be totally different for each image
depending on how dark your image is, so from here what we are going to get is a washed out faded effect
so we are going to start from the middle and we are just going to bring it up so its a little bit brighter so around about there
and then we are just going to curve it a little bit more so you want to play around with that because your going to have a lot more time as I said,
once you have done that we are just going to go to our "background layer"
and then go to the bottom right hand side and go to the "new blank layer" icon
and we are just going to click the "paint bucket tool" make sure you have the foreground set to white
and then we are just going to click the page and then we are just going to bring that layer to the bottom and that's pretty much done
now you can add loads more bits like we can go and add a drop shadow to the paper layer
so double click the "paper layer" and we are just going to put a "drop shadow" on
now depending on the angel of your paper or your picture you might want to play around with the "angel"
mine is going to be around about "140" for this and then we are just going to bring up the "distance so we can see it
and the size so its not so blocky, so its a little bit faded around the edges
and now once you have done that you can click "ok" now as i said you can add loads more bits to this, you can even add masking tape like I did to the original,
so from here you can just go to Google an find the masking tape or go to stock images and find masking tape on there or even normal tape will do
once you have found a image of masking tape, I've just found this one
all your going to do is cut it out by useing the "rectangle marquee tool" on the left hand side and drag and drop into your image
and then press "ctrl" + "T" depending on the size that it comes out as
and then make it the right shape and then press the "tick icon" at the top
your going to go over to the "magic wand tool" again and just click the white and then press the delete
and then press "ctrl" + "D" to deselect and then press "ctrl" + "T" to free transform
and then you can really put it anywhere that you want so around about there, then go and click the "tick" at the top
and you can even bring down the "opacity" a little bit so you can just see through it
so once you have done that you might want to bring out the "canvas size" because it is a bit tight at the moment
so we are just going to go up to "image" then down to "canvas size" and we are just going to go to "pixels"
because then we can see what we are working with and all we are going to do it bring this up by "200" pixels on the "width" and the "hight"
so this is going to be set to "2000" and I'm just going to bring the "hight" to "1400" and then click "ok"
we are going to go to the "paint bucket tool" again and go to the "bottom layer" and click
and that's pretty much the effect done, now how easy and simple was that, now you can add your own effects onto it so don't stop there let your imagination go wild
so put your own sort of thing on it, and please check out my website and please comment, rate and subscribe
and I'll see you next time guys, Bye for now.
