Hello and welcome to this introduction to WordPress
this is basic WordPress site
freshly installed and it has a 2012
it has the 2012 theme applied to it which is probably what you have applied
if you have just installed your own copy of WordPress
on you may have a different theme installed
the elements should be roughly the same
they may be in different places on the page you may have a sidebar on the left
side instead of on the right side
you menu could be in the sidebar or you may not have a sidebar
all and your content to go all the way across on those are all different things
that might happen
as you customize the Site so
if things were moved around don't worry too much about it you're just
seeing a different version and that's okay
so just as an overview this is
the the header area you're gonna see the menu
and the name the site here the site is called WordPress Demo
and you can see the tag line here
just says just another WordPress site that's the standard
when you install WordPress. This is the content area and we'll talk a little bit
more about content later
when you go to Edit page or post this is
this is the part that you can actually change from that area
this is a sidebar and that's
this is actually widget area sidebar so there's
a search widget there's a comments widget and it has these
comments listed out there are archives here
for your previous
posts categories
these are all widgets meta is a widget
and
this is the comment area it goes right
underneath the content and if you have
comments turned on then you'll see this if you don't have comments turned on
then you won't see it
for that particular page post and then down here
is the footer okay so that's pretty much everything
that we can see right now from the 2012 theme
with this basic simple site setup
so let's go into the back end and
if you have a login link on your site
like I do right here you can use that you can also just type in
go to your URL and and on
WP-admin and that will also
get you back into the back end of your site where you can
make changes and that kind of thing so
here's my username then just
putting in my password here and you can see when you first install
WordPress that you get this nice message on your dashboard that says
welcome to WordPress
and we've assembled some links to get you started so you can follow through
these things
it's a pretty good guide for what to do next
you don't have to do it this way if you know a little bit more about what you're
doing or someone else's customize this for you
then you can really just dismiss this
and that makes it go away if you want it back
you dismissed accidentally then you can
bring it back here go to screen options
and click welcome and it will bring
you're welcome message back I also have
quick press turned off here but you know you can turn that back on you can
you can turn on and off all of these different sections
really most these aren't necessarily going to be useful
to you at any given time
you maybe don't need to see the WordPress Blogger other WordPress news
so you know you can turn those things off and now they won't be cluttering up
this area but
keep in mind too that you can move these things around us by dragging them
just grab this and drag it or you can minimize
you wanna just get a more overall view of things and then
kinda break into these different items and look at them
more seriously so yeah this is right now
this is just an overview of what's
available on the site there's 23 post 27 pages
cetera et cetera you're on the 2012 theme here
and we have five widgets in our sidebar which we talked about a little bit earlier
and we have search engines discouraged which means basically that the site
is not yet ready to be live
and we don't really want people to look through google and find it that way
just yet because we're not done putting in the content and getting everything
just so before we
before we actually launch
but we'll talk about that a little bit more later it's in the settings
which you can find over here so your settings for this is the settings for
most of the site
we'll go over these later I just wanna kind of point out the side menu to you
there's users which you can add all kinds of new users you can have as many as you
want
there's plugins for adding functionality to the site
appearance which includes the themes in the widgets and menus
the header in background
and then here's this is more content related
things so posts are blog posts
if you are working with the blog in this is where you find your content
media is includes images, videos, documents, PDFs
all those kinds of things this is where you'll find those you can also
kinda put together galleries that sort of thing
and pages is also here pages are just like posts
except pages are going to tend to not change as much
so you gonna kinda put up a page like about us
and then you gonna come to leave it there you can go back and change it
later
you know if you're doing like a journal entry like a blog then
you would go to posts for that
and that's kind of it that's really the basic overview you can
go right back to the the front and if your site and look at the site
from here and see what other people see when they come
and you'll notice your that there's this bar up at the top
and that will stay there as long as you're logged in so that you can go back
and forth
between looking at the back end and looking at the front-end
you can even click on edit page or create new page right from here
and create a new page or edit the page that you're on
also see this link here now it says edit page
and you can use that to edit this page and change this information
but that's about it I hope that helps
thanks
