Do you want to be a journalist? Would you like to spread news of your neighborhood,
town or vereda? Or to create a space where all the country may find out about things
that take place in your community? It is very easy. In this video you will find
tools and guidelines to investigate, produce, and disseminate your own news. In less than
you can imagine you will become the creator of the most important digital newspaper in
your community. Equip yourself with a video or photograph
camera and a voice recorder, and make sure to have access to a computer with internet
for further work. Start by determining what will be your first
story. Have you witnessed an emergency situation in your community? Is the main road blocked
because of a fallen tree? Perhaps you already have your first story.
Grab your recording tools, go to the scene and take videos or general photos of it.
Use a video camera or voice recorder to interview the witness who saw what happened or were
there. Go to a library and search the internet to
have more information. Look for other news about it and complementary information such
as what is the importance of that road. Now you are ready to produce your electronic
newspaper! It's time to give it a name... Use Wordpress or a similar service to create
a blog in which you can upload the edited material and organize your electronic newspaper.
Download recorded material. Organize it and familiarize with what you got.
Edit the material: if it is audio, use Audacity to enhance the sound, use accompanying music,
and mix your interviews in a single clip. If it is video, use Movie Maker to edit all
your videos into one, add images, music, and many other things.
Write a short text to accompany the images using the research and interviews you have.
It's time that the world finds out that your newspaper exist. You should find creative
ways to make it known. Here are some ideas: Design a flyer and hand it out or post it
on significant places such as the library. Open a Facebook group with the name of the
newspaper and tell your friends about it. Invite your friends or classmates to participate
in this initiative. The more reporters the newspaper has, the more information it will
provide and it will grow incessantly everyday! And, of course, when you call attention to
local problems you increase the possibility that a solution is found for them.
