Thank you for having me here today...
So it was great to have the chance to cook the breakfast baba ganoush with the kids.
I want the young people of Ontario to grow up with the healthiest food, the most nutritious
meals and the best care possible, but I also want them to have a strong understanding of
where our food comes from and how we can support local products, Ontario farmers, and food
that's grown right here at home.
So these kid-approved local food recipes and the project that we're celebrating here today,
are a great example of what we can achieve when we work together to support Ontario products.
So earlier this spring, I introduced the Local Food Act, as you know in the Legislature,
as part of our comprehensive local food strategy and we included in that a $30 million dollar
commitment to our local food fund and it's in our budget, it's an investment that will
support innovative projects, promoting local food across the province.
We're also pushing our own government to consider it's own actions in support of this important
cause and so we're going to make sure that provincial organizations priories the use
of local food as well.
My hope is that these little ones, because of this project, will have an opportunity
to take this home to their families and their families will get a sense of what we're all
collectively trying to do in terms of where our food is grown and how important it is
to support the Ontario economy.
