Hello, good evening.
Good evening we begin the 'Revista RPC' showing an world champion of what was known before as 'Vale-tudo'.
Sport that has achieved a professional status, now known as MMA.
MMA in portuguese stands for 'Artes marciais mistas', and whatever they may be,
there is always a fighter from Paraná* among the best in the world.
The last one to become a star of the sport has been the curitibano* Maurício Shogun.
Belive it, that smiling and caring "big daddy" is the same that on the ring delivers punches and kicks.
In the beginning of May there were lots of demolishing strikes and another world title.
This time in the rematch against another brazilian - Lyoto Machida.
I think I'm the only man who has more gold than his woman at home.
This belt is the one - the world light heavyweight title - from UFC,
that these days is the biggest organization of Vale tudo (MMA) in the world.
This was my big dream and today I'm holding my big dream at home.
Middle brother of a family with three boys, Maurício as a boy was slim, rowdy and shy around the girls.
He decided to face the life of 'everyday strikes' because of his older brother.
When I was fifteen my brother Murilo Ninja started training and encouraged me...
then after he insisted so much I also started training, because of him,
and today it's my profession, it's how I earn my daily bread... I am where I am thanks to him.
At the table are indispensable the company of his daughter Maria Eduarda, 5 months old, and his wife, Renata.
More difficult than any fight was conquering his wife's heart.
I never cared about this fighting stuff, I thought it was an absurd...
When fights aired on TV I would talk 'Geez why are these guys doing that, what a waste of time'.
He got my Messenger adress from my personal training clinic, I had a site.
He then started to add me, and everytime I would delete him, but he would add me again I deleted him but he added me again...
until I said 'Ah, Ok I will talk to him'.
He was insistent.
He was insistent.
When she went to my home there had a lot of trophies.
She asked me 'What are all these trophies?' and I replied, kidding, 'I'm an Axé Teacher, a dance teacher'...
and for about three days after she kept believing it. Only then she discovered that I was a fighter.
It was a memorable scene and at the same time amusing, back in the day.
In the Gym the trainings are six times per week, from three to five hours a day.
In the morning Mauricio Shogun trains Vale tudo, on afternoon it's Jiu-jitsu time, and by the evening, Muay Thai.
All this without counting the hours of running, stretching and strengh training.
(trainer talking) He wore down the trainer. The guy is the number one in the world.
He isn't a little guy.
He isn't little.
How is it like, to be 'the man to be beat' in the division, how does it feel?
To tell the truth, I was looking forward to it and today I am... and now, for shure, I have to train much more.
Now it will be more difficult to keep it because everybody wants it, everybody wants the belt.
To gain more strengh, Shogun - the great japanese general that inspired his nickname - is on one side;
on the other side, to bless him, there is the Holy Mary*.
She is my protector, I've been going to the novena* for more than 10 years, then she is my great protector.
The challenge for now on is to remain with the belt. There are many fighters who want to fight Maurício Shogun.
