and thanks for coming back to twenty twelve on michael sure we're joined in
our continuing look at the congressional candidates of two thousand twelve by a
doctor lee e_c_u_ rogers of the twenty fifth district of california he is uh...
challenging howard mckeon buck mckeon of that twenty fifth district it's a it's a
tough race for is in the doctor rogers
yeah i mean i don't think any races easy especially with the encounters
who's been in there for nine terms
yeah and and what what do you see as an opportunity to halogen bulb mckeon this
year that uh... that that maybe hasn't existed before and i want to talk a
little bit about
uh... the the
his favoritism that he received
uh... now it's coming out in uh... in the countrywide loan scandal
i want to talk about his uh... propensity for defense and what that
means is the inability on on the jobs bill uh... to the payroll taxes but i
wanna know just sort of an intentional way
wife thought now was a good time
to challenge buffet
well uh... there's a there's a couple of reasons the first is redistricting is no
longer
in his favor
you're used to be a registered it was nine point republican advantage now
registrations are route thirty eight percent democrat forty one percent
republican eighteen percent decline to say
the uh... that this is also has a very large latino population has their story
percent latino just change over the past twenty years in california
that's the first issue that that we think is going to work in our favor
another thing is he's on the wrong side a couple of local issues
one vehicle minus going
that will be going into place
in in santa clarita
and it states uh... people from the chamber of commerce in the sierra club
are really upset about this and he's kinda
so that in the way in a while does stink over
and what what's tell what kind of mine would that be and what uh... what is the
right way to be there and that is the as he's standing out of the way allowing to
happen because he's claiming jobs creation and forgetting that the
environment or is it
is a mormon issues that he's just hasn't been a position at all
yogita he actually its position is a causes a lot
but it's not as actions
it's uh... he's entered bills to oppose the minds of creatas lancelot and
barbara boxer's injured about all the senate so that we that it would be a
swap of land
from santa clarita over today too real
and all of the are all the players including the mining companies are c max
is everywhere
mckeon refused to enter a companion bill in the house because he claims that
these that uh... doc hastings look at it
and said that is a it's a uh... an earmark and so his party has told you
can enter the spill into the house
even though
that history once to be entered
as it is amazing dot hastings and congressman from the state of washington
classifying it is near mark so all of a sudden he has to retreat when he sees in
their markup and by maginnis in than someone who spent a lot of time
retreating from premier marks
but we were there are certain words or estimates he was born
quarter of the month by uh... by uh... citizens against government waste nina
as i got that in college i dot that award was me
proud to say software uh... the uh... no but the the so he he he he is somebody i
know who is who has been inclined to
uh... to to be on the side of of the remarks rather than uh... rather than
someone who has uh... shunned them but here when it comes to taking a position
that seems like it would help his district
his not doing so very curious
there
we were asked for class as everybody else in the circus and this is it's
pulling very negatively or
yet but tell us a little bit about what's going where what happened with
him and that's in the still and and the the the countrywide
uh... loans a little bit because he someone whose name
coming up repeatedly about getting favoritism in and at the pending alone
talking a little about that
well i think the documentation rhetoric leak
on his farm with the involvement of him with
anthony muzzle
and then he also tonight
receiving v_i_p_ treatment in the meeting was oh
which recess for receiving the same going for a while
uh... in nineteen ninety-seven he bought a house indicted stevenson ranch which
is right outside of
obscenity korea
yes hit u his business was undergoing a bankruptcy baggio he has four brothers
on the business uh... some country western shirts stores and his business
underwent bankruptcy
uh... his his brothers had declared personal bankruptcy in addition to uh...
method over bankruptcy is he did not
and it
she uh... he got a lone from
countrywide in nineteen eighty
refinancing the house equal ninety seven
and this loan was for three hundred fifty thousand dollars three by
uh... was
he approached d lobbyist effort in his name is rehearsal lobbyist for the
mortars mortgage bankers association
who put him in touch with his name was alone
unless the i'd be program and was killed himself personally
oversaw macias loan directing the loan officer to take off one percent
not offer any fees
and uh... approve with no documentation
it's incredible actually when you're in a congressman
and uh... this is going on i mean i i don't know if this happened when he was
a congressman earth this pre david f
with his gear it when he was a darshan
that that you wouldn't that you wouldn't keep
your distance forgetting how much the loans for forgetting the percentage
just the judgment to not bill to get the favored loan and not approach someone
and then have them assure your loan through
it's it's unseemly it also distressed me forget about the actions strikes me as
uh... that he would do that and i can't imagine that this won't be
uh... an issue in your race for congress there as you were talking to me it it
did
it dawned on me what it called place america is because running for congress
if you go back to
to what he was originally he was a country and western shirts salesman
and he's running against a podiatrist your podiatrist relevance of this is a
it's a fantastic country that you can have a podiatrist running against the
country western shirts salesman that being said
let's talk about what's difficult about this resume you have some you some easy
issues right there with between countrywide and and
and and the story just told about the mind but this guy's one with all big
percentage of the vote for a long time
and uh... like you said this is he's been in the congress almost twenty years
what is what is it
where did the opening here in the redistricting all of that
what do you have to do differently than the last person run against bookmaking
what would have had a stand out from the graph
personally i think there
if you look at the history of the people that run against him are nobody has ever
raised any money gets them because i i don't think that
it was ever seen s
so we had a chance aquatic sonya the last race
the the the challenger only race thirty seven hundred dollars or step aside
a hundred dollars intiki set one point three million so we've already raised
two hundred thousand dollars in in the first three months of were we're on the
part of your work with
discussion whether he's been remarkable for a reason
uh... because people are seeing an opening here but
uh... i think the first thing is
is is is funds you know the second thing his entire career consultants i have
consoles that that decreases versus christine o'donnell they did you already
had linda sanchez they they do loretta sanchez
when she'd be bob dornan in a very similar situation
and this is the reason why hire these people let's go some encouragement right
there unless you run into an afternoon as it was super packed its funding
buck mckean somehow uh... but no it's i don't know that that when you answer the
question that's true i mean it seems like here you've got all your docs in
the proverbial row there uh... in terms of challenging assitant and what do you
when you think about going to cars forget all the flowering talk for a
moment that the new you'll give when you when you get to congress
what is the one who liked some of the cool things that
that excite you not being able to do in congress say i mean from getting a
parking spot at national airport
to tell them you know getting an office and and what what do you want to vote on
what is the sun is exciting for you
yeah i i actually have sandwiches are offset by folks on health care has
expanded the role in health care right that's that's what i'm interested in the
race to begin with you know that your own when
we're going through the with the affordable care act
uh... how is everyone elaire interactive going how's it playing in in your
district house what they're calling all bomber care playing in the in the twenty
fifth district in california
we we we were pulling and now we don't know actually don't support better
and and and democrat
idea you know i'm a doctor first ok and at the entire you know there are several
things in the building good
but as a doctor we set a waitress in benefits of treatments when i talk to
patients and and uh... if this bill i think there are
more recent benefits and i would have supported it but i feel like the way
went through you know uh... uh... after you don't pass the senate version
kennedy died he could not go back and look at the conference and ended just as
good to go back room
uh... i just
feel like it's it's not a good bill but uh...
and that's that's my medical opinion you know who goes well
i so we're pulling it up because we're we're interested to see where people
think about it but um... you know i i would have supported to begin with
the uh...
you know there's a lot of exciting things that i think you can accomplish
knowing legislatively i think they're policy-wise and this is because it was
kind of you know ignored in in many cases if you're a member of congress you
can get a meeting
you know we're going to secretary of health human services in discussing
policy issues are that are affecting people in your district or
or affecting oh...
you know when i was for the prevention of sort of diabetes i specialize in
indirect complications
and uh... and i think those
you you have a better chance of effecting some
some change because that's just absolutely true i mean the fact that you
can get just anyone on the phone in government
is pretty cool
now but i want you to tell me one thing that you think about that has nothing to
do with government about what will be
what would be called up the about like melted someone's gonna stop you at
at the airport and it's just something silly that has nothing to do it
are well you know what works but i'm interested in and i really
i really uh... that are we going to be arrested
obtain flagstar monitor f capita and there's a productive life and it's
really cool yeah that's really cool that's been good answer you win without
what lee rogers uh... you know i i
had spoken to a handful of of congressional panels are not just
sending you seem to really be on top of what you're doing there been your race
uh... there's some people that we've spoken to the scene
a little bit uh... head of the game and behind in releasing the head of the game
you feel like uh... that you're someone who's got the uh... your act together in
terms of winding up against buck mckeon i i'd
know how tough it is we all know how to have it is running against incumbents
uh... but we appreciate your time here we will uh... will be here for you uh...
when your congressmen to come talk to us and uh... i hope we'll still take our
calls uh... canada i hear you look into that uh... pollster mom inner issue
and uh... let us know how your poll in on the on health care and we will take
over the support for uh... before election day
along this line of thinking factory on shows as twenty called back after this
