Welcome to this review.
Today I'll show you the Supercard DSTWO
which is the second Slot-1 flashcard of the Supercard Team after the Supercard DSONE.
The Supercard Team released some Slot-2 flashcards, too but they are very rare.
The SC team states that they developed the card over one year which is noticeable.
It supports the current DSi- and 3DS firmware, gets updates very fast and has some other features I'll talk about later.
You can find the link to an installation tutorial in the description.
I got the card from Vartis, a german store that has two years warranty.
I got a replacement after one year because my old DSTWO wasn't recognized any more.
The box appears to be very luxurious.
Official functions are listed on the back of the box (you can pause the video to read them).
The SCDS2 lays in a grey piece of plastic
with instruductions.
They only contain the basic information.
You can find the MicroSD reader (which worked some months but doesn't work any more)
and the Supercard itself in the plastic.
You can see some of the numberous chips under the sticker.
It looks very luxury but the build quality isn't very good.
You can see that mine slowly falls apart.
I hadn't had this problem with the first one.
One screw broke out and it deosn't get ejected from the DS properly.
At least I can open it very easily.
Again you can see the numberous chips,
more than you can find at a normal flashcard. The back looks similar.
One of them is a CPU but there are some other chips, too.
That enables the opportunity to update the card after a 3DS got updated and the SCDS2 got blocked. You can find a link to a tutorial for that in the description.
The DSTWO has its own header at the DS Lite but that's not possible with the DSi/3DS.
That's the reason why the SC team uses the icon of the game "Alex Rider".
The DSTWO is the only older flashcard which needed one header so far and still works with all 3DS firmwares.
That's achieved by "spoofing" a real DS cartridge with the CPU.
There are no hardware revisions which means that you can still use all functions with the first batches.
You'll get into a plugin menu after installing the DSTWO where you can select different games
after installing them. You can find a link to a plugin tutorial in the description.
There is i.e. a GBA Emulator and a SNES Emulator for the DSTWO.
They can access the RAM of the DSTWO.
Normal applications can't do that.
But you can use the Plugin Menu for Homebrew applications, too.
I'll start a game with the GBA Emulator
Obviously it runs very good.
You can change the settings in the menu which appears when you touch the screen.
There's also a movieplayer
and an ebook reader but I won't go into the last one since it's not very good.
It's ment to read *.PDF files but it's not really better than other Homebrew applications.
The movie player can play even *.avi and *.mp3 files.
Almost no other flashcard can play *.avi videos.
The videos are converted into 640x480p. since the playback of higher qualities is very laggy.
Now I'll show you "DS_GAME", the plugin for normal DS games.
It allows editing files, changing the skins,
changing the language,
and the change of other settings.
I.e. the hotkeys I'll mention later again.
You can enter a menu for a specific game by pressing "X" after selecting it which allows you to change settings like the cheat codes..
Most homebrew works without problems, too. I'll show you the "nitro" version of DSCraft.
Unfortunately, there's no Soft-Reset function for Homebrew games:
You have to reset the DS to get back into the DSTWO's menu.
Now I'll go into another menu which uses the Hotkeys.
Most retail- and homebrewgames are supported
Only older homebrew applications i.e. which use an outdated filesystem (i.e. GBAFS) aren't supported any more.
The ingame menu can be accessed by pressing the Hotkey L, R and START which can be changed.
It allows you i.e. to open a text reader which can open text files and images ingame (they can contain walkthroughs etc.),
to create a savestate (I'll explain that later),
and to activate and deactivate cheats.
If I open the menu here (ingame)
and select "save",
I can return to the point in the game at every time.
In addition, you can turn the timelapse on which allows you to play the game at slower speed
and to find your own cheats ingame.
Now I'll show you the timelapse.
The game has a lower FPS (framerate) but it works.
This function allows you to create your own cheats.
This option allows you to return to the DSTWO menu without restarting the DS.
There exists a clone of the Supercard DSTWO, a very bad R4i,
But it's not very common and was only avaible for a short period of time.
To conclude, I can say that the team is very good and that they created a very good hardware base
which is the reason why there exists a community alround the card.
99% of the games are supported, too.
But it's bad that the team decided to spend more money into the box than into the (shell of the) card itself
and that some plugins don't work very good (the official Emulators and the iReader).
In addition to that, it's very expensive for a flashcard (it costs alround 40€).
