Can you name all the prescription drugs in your medicine cabinet? More importantly, do
you know all of their potential side effects?
(No?) You're not alone. Some prescription drugs have so many warnings, it's impossible
to keep up. That's why prescription drugs are becoming the number one cause of accidental
death in the U.S.—even deadlier than car accidents!
Let's talk about what you should do if you or someone in your family has suffered a drug
injury. Each year, pharmaceutical companies flood
the market with new drugs they claim to be safe and more effective than the old. But
whether you're taking medication for... birth control
diabetes depression
acid reflux pain relief
or some other reason ...the drugs you think are safe, may be causing
you harm.
For example, certain diabetes drugs have been linked to a wide range of health problems
such as internal bleeding and cancer. Meanwhile, an entire class of antidepressants known as
SSRIs have been found to increase the risk of birth defects in newborns.
The factors that make certain drugs harmful can vary greatly. They include:
inadequate testing by drug companies prescriptions that are hard to follow
incomplete warning labels and harmful interactions with other prescription
drugs Never stop taking any medication before asking
your doctor.
But if you or a loved one has suffered a prescription drug injury, seek medical treatment immediately
and, if possible, request a safer drug alternative.
