Hello, my name is Elena and this is my book.
'O' is for Outlaw belongs to a series of Alphabet mystery novels written by Sue Grafton,
who started to write this curious alphabet after her own divorce,
and who confesses in the first pages of the book that the main character, Kinsey Millhone, is her own alter ego.
The plot this time, in this novel, is set in 1985 in Santa Teresa, the California home of Kinsey,
who is a private investigator.
One day Kinsey receives a call from a storage space scavenger in Colorado who sells her for twenty bucks a box of her own memorabilia.
The things belonged to her first ex-husband, Mickey Magruder, who had been evicted, and,
among the things inside the box she finds an undelivered letter to her, but she'd never opened it.
In the letter, her friend Dixie confessed to have an affair with Mickey
and declared that they were together the Mickey was supposed to have killed a drunkard after a fight in a bar, 13 years ago.
At that time Kinsey, Mickey's wife,
didn't want to pass as Mickey's allibi because she thought that Mickey was guilty, so she walked out.
But, after reading the letter, she realizes that Mickey was innocent, so she decides to track him down.
But she finds he has been shot and is unconscious and under police protection in a hospital.
So she gets in contact with the police but, although she hasn't been in touch all those years,
she turns out the main suspect.
And then, curiosity drags her into an investigation that unearths Mickey's secrets from the past and the present.
And, as she comes closer to find the killer, the person who killed the drunkard in the bar,
and Mickey's shooter, she puts herself in great peril.
So, I think this character, Kinsey, is brave and loyal and a tenacious woman who
faces her past bravely, her struggles for justice,
and I think she wants to repair her unwitting mistakes and
and get square with her ex-husband.
It’s amazing how easy she can play different characters and she can invent different situations when she tries to get information.
I think there is another character that I really liked, it's her next door neighbour, Harry,
because this man worries about her like a father.
So, this is a highly recommended installment and,
the plot is intriguing and you can't imagine how it would end, so
I'm sure this gripping story will hook you from the very first page.
