So, you have members of your family that have chosen architecture as profession, that has influenced your personal choice as well?
Yes indeed, I think it's architecture, culture and art in general if there is awareness since childhood,
in fact we will have a more open mind and of course, it was also extremely important in my career's choice.
You did a project for a hotel as your first project, that has influenced your career? As you have several hotels in your curriculum, right?
Yes, I am an architect, but I had the opportunity, very young, to make a hotel in architecture and decoration
and after that a lot of hotel chains asked me to do hotels.
So it is very difficult for large projects to do architecture and decoration,so now I do more interior design, decoration,
but I always like to do both and of course it was since the first hotel, from many hotels, and this time I'm doing an hotel for MeliĆ”,
a Spanish chain in Paris, it will be a 400-room hotel, a very large hotel for MeliĆ”.
Do you follow trends or do you think that each hotel has its own style? What do you think about it?
In fact, I try to give a unique identity to each hotel and this identity it depends a lot on the place where the hotel is built, the environment,
the city and the neighborhood. It is also the building's architecture, if it's an ancient building or a modern building.
It depends also on the customer because I like to consider the identity of my clients, in fact, it is a source of inspiration
for me and it is with these parameters that I try to define for each hotel a specific identity.
This specific event is important to you, Maison & Objet? It is important for your work?
Yes, for me this is the most important show because especially when doing decoration or even the choice of the global ambiance with
the choice of materials, flooring and walls, after we necessarily each furniture element, every object that will be placed into the hotel,
this is what will really give identity, the initial perception that the customer will have.
So for me, it is a permanent source to find new products and new suppliers.
For each hotel I try to change the products in order to provide that unique identity to each project.
Where do you get inspiration for your projects? Travelling for example?
The inspiration sources in my work .. I love literature and cinema also because when we go to a hotel is like a movie's foreground.
When you go to the cinema from time to time,
if the film is well done you are in the room and the room becomes dark and you just have the foreground and all of a sudden you are in your
seat, you're already in the atmosphere of the film and in fact, this is what I like in a hotel also.
That means, you enter and all of a sudden there is a kind of magic in the place, it is a place talking to you right now.
Afterwards, the rest of the film it's you who is going to create the history,
living in this hotel, but that is like the foreground of a film and these are things that inspire me.
Wich was the most remarkable project for you?
This is a difficult question. I worked a lot in Japan and I have enjoyed working in Japan.
and suddenly it's with people with whom we have spoken very far in accomplishing.
We are more attached maybe to the projects we've just finished, so I've just finished
an important project in Marseille in a former hospital of the eighteenth century, it is an intercontinental.
This is a project that I love and soon, in Paris we will open a hotel in a former swimming pool from the thirties.
It is called the Molitor swimming pool and is an iconic pool to all Parisians because all Parisians over twenty years know the place,
so it is always interesting to do a project in a place that already has its own history, and that actually feeds the project itself.
What, at BRABBU, as awaken your interest for the brand and to build the partnership?
Me, I thought it was a brand with great elegance and that had a true modernity.
An European modernity that I think it gets its inspiration also in the European tradition.
Myself, when I start a hotel project I find necessary to make it look like ourselves.
That means, we live in the XXI century, but at the same time we have a whole culture behind us and Europeans,
even if we say that it is the ancient Europe,
I think the Europeans have that luck to live in an historical environment filled with culture and history.
And that is an inspiration source to create modernity and novelty and that's what I've found in your brand.
