So, I'm going to show you how to straighten your hair using a blow dryer today.
So, you're going to take your naturally curly hair, freshly washed. I let it air dry a little
bit, or you can towel dry it, or you can give it just a really good rough blow dry. And
then I always want to get myself started in a good position.
So, I'm going to section off the hair. I think this is good because it makes it less overwhelming.
You know when you've finished a piece how much you have left to do; it makes it very
reasonable. So, I'm actually going to take this section the very top...big rectangle,
kind of Mohawk section. This is going to be all of your volume. Actually, I'm going to
leave a little bit of the front piece out. This is a great tip, especially if you're
super curly around the front, or you have a ton of those little baby hairs. This will
be a section that you do, one of the first sections that you do. So the rest of it, I'm
going to clip up and out of the way. Next, I'm going to section off these sections.
So, I'm going to go form the back of that section to the top of the ear. So everything
in front of the ear goes that way, same exact thing on the other side. And then I'm going
to take this back section, and I'm going to section off a little piece on the bottom,
and then pin this up. And what I'll do is, I'm going to do the very front piece first,
and then the sides. And then I'll go up the back, and then I'll finish with this Mohawk
section. So I put in her hair, ahead of time, a little bit of a styling product. She has
pretty fine hair, so I'm putting something in there to help with humidity control and
give it a little bit of smoothness and moisture, but it's going to also protect us against
the blow dryer.
So what I'm going to do on these front sections is, I'm going to pull the hair straight out
to the side. And I've already rough-blown her hair, so it's not soaking wet. You don't
need it to be soaking wet. You probably want it, you know, 80 percent dry. So you would
take this first section here, use the round brush, and we're going to pull all these sections
out from the head like this. And then this front section, we're going to roll back toward
the head, and then we're going to continue that all the way up to the Mohawk. And then
for this back section, I'm also going to pull it straight out to the side. So as you're
working at home, you'll be able to see what you're doing.
You're going to be giving your hair good tension at the root. That's the most important thing
about a blow dry, is good tension. Though, usually you start drying the roots all the
way to the, kind of the mid-section, you leave a little bit of a moisture at the ends because
that's going to help it to stay on your brush. Even if you have to take two hands after you've
rough dried, put it in the brush and then roll it back. As you're blow drying you can
still move your brush back and forth easily. Doesn't matter about how you get to the points.
It's just all about the tension and the blow dry.
