Who are we?
We are the Arab Youth Climate Movement
(Tasneem Nagi) By "Arab" Climate movement we mean all he youth in the middle east and North Africa
In every country there are people like us
their job is to educate their community about the environmental problems that occur
internationally and specifically in our region
To bring problems such as the environment and climate change, big subjects like these
closer to the ordinary person
who, like us, wakes up everyday and goes to work
goes to college and back
how do these things concern them in their life?
we organize workshops every month
we take care that they are simple and are easy to understand, even to us
what we do is that we search for the topics
like energy,waste,
where our trash goes
climate change
we look up all these things and learn about them
and then we look for applications about them in our region and what their immediate effect on our lives is
and after that we present to you what we learned
what have we done so far?
we've organized 3 workshops
and 3 actions
we choose a topic and organize a workshop about it first
where we present the information we'd learned, simplified to you
we'd organized a workshop about energy
about energy consumption generally in the world and in Sudan
about its effect on us
and we even asked people to give us proposals for solutions that they think are good for these problems
and it was very successful workshop and we were very happy with the attendance
we organized a workshop about managing trash and waste in general
and about where it goes
what it's turned to, how can we help
we set up one about climate change, what it is, how it happens
and because the whole thing shouldn't just stay theoretical and not applied practically
and it's just all talk and no action
we make sure to make actions after each workshop where we take the theory and apply it
for example, in the energy workshop, we took action after it
in an international event called "Earth hour"
in which the whole world would decrease its use of energy for an hour
and it was the first time that big facilities or landmarks in Khartoum, participated in this event
after the workshop about climate change we planted over 300 trees in the industrial area in Bahri with the help of volunteers
all we'd done was tell them what we wanted to do and they all came and volunteered their time and effort to help us
And this was something we didn't expect and it pleased us all very much
As youth we always like change
(Khalid Alwaleed) not just for the sake of change but because there are a lot of things that we came and found
that we don't like
because either they are wrong and we're unaware that they are
or they are wrong and we know they are but we do nothing to fix them
also people take the word "change" from the political perspective
in ruling systems and such,
but for us, for me personally, I think change could start from bottom up
a person can change themselves
their relationship with their community
their relationship with the environment they live in
and therefore, as a result for that we can change the community together
personally I love the environment very much
and I came across AYCM, leading the change in the environment field
I wanted to be part of the change
(Ola Ahmed) Everything changes with time
even the climate changes
and this is clear in the desertification that's moving south
and the decrease in temperatures occurring here in Sudan
Sudan is one of the countries most exposed to climate change
that's why we, being Sudanese youth, want to deliver this message to all the other youth
and spread awareness of climate change
(Suha Elsadig) our problem is a big one, and our cause a very important one
and in order to deal with it we must fully understand it
AYCM helped us a lot to understand this problem and try to solve it
we divide it into simpler, smaller problems
but still, it's a big problem
in AYCM we divide it into parts to be able to understand it and relate to it as part of the solution
and in the end, AYCM is a seed in Sudanes land
(Ni'ma Showgi) that needs all Sudanese hands to grow and be part of the change that we need
