I mean pregnancy is weird and
it does a lot of strange things to your body.
Lactation is like a whole 'nother level ofwow!
We are incredible creatures
And my husband was a little bit shocked to see the amount that I producing.
In the very beginning, I was really hesitant to give my milk away.
It felt like this treasure that I had just barely eeked out,
been able to accomplish breastfeeding.
And here I was, I had this stash and it was growing. Everyday.
I've had friends deliver premature babies in the last year.
I can't imagine being in their shoes.
Being scared and uncertain about the lives and health of their children.
Being able to call on other mothers in the community
that are willing and able to give up this excess milk,
to support the children that really need it,
I mean there is little that is more important than that.
And, frankly, it is a really easy thing to do if it is part of your routine that's established early on.
I felt like it was something that my daughter and I were doing together.
And, it will always be the very first community service project we ever participated in together.
and to establish
that sort of a precedent for her life
my husband and I do a little bit of community service with organizations that we really believe in
and I always want that to be a priority for her, and her life.
It was one of the best things I did in the first year of my daughter's life.
And, now being 10 weeks pregnant,
I am excited to be donating again in 2013.
My name is Meghan, and I donated 2,688 ounces to the Mothers' Milk Bank at Austin.
