Bayonne is an urban gem
located on the shores of the Bay of Basque,
close to the Pyrenees
in the French Basque Country.
It is one of the largest cities
of the region of Aquitaine
and it's also one of the most beautiful,
located at the confluence
of the Nive and Adour rivers.
Bayonne Cathedral
known as The Saint Mary's Cathedral
is an elegant Gothic building,
constructed in the 13th century
and it was named one of
UNESCO's World Heritage Sites,
like a monument that integrates
the French Way of St. James.
Another monument is the Old Castle
in the city center.
The Old Castle construction began in the 11th century
on the location of the Roman castrum
and was finally finished six centuries later.
The medieval layout in it's narrow streets
is appreciated.
A lovely detail is that we can't see
in the building's front a single cable.
This city with more than
a quarter of a million inhabitants
is a neat and charming French city.
