Walnut street bridge
Walnut street bridge is one of the most famous and visited places in Chattanooga by tourists
The bridge crosses the Tennessee river along with the Market street and "Veterans" bridges
It is half a mile long...
and nowadays the world's longest pedestrian bridge
It was built in 1890
and connects the downtown area with the north shore
It was originally built for train and automobile crossing
But in 1978, the bridge was closed to traffic due to its aging structure, and was abandoned
10 years later the bridge was repaired and made available to the public, and can be enjoyed at any time of day
There are many attractions close to the bridge;
Within a few steps one can find Coolidge Park, where families can stroll and rest...
and kids can enjoy the fountains or the carrousel
On the other shore one can visit the Tennessee Aquarium...
Hunter museum of art...
and even sail along the river aboard the Southern Belle
Last, one can go shopping in the nearby stores...
and one can enjoy good food in the many restaurants, coffee shops and hotels in the area
Walnut street bridge...
One of Chattanooga's wealth
