Hello, Amilcar Cordoba and Martha Julia de Marroquin. Thank you very much for coming here today.
We’re going to talk about LARG, the Latin American Reinsurance Group.
First question. LARG is a unique organisation. What are the main reasons for this?
Well, basically, the main reason why LARG is seen today as a unique organisation is
that we have been able to incorporate a diverse group of insurance cooperatives and companies in the Americas,
working in different regions and having different aims.
But basically, we all have the same culture and the same cooperative principles.
Thank you very much. Another question. What were the key factors in achieving solidarity between members?
Well, in fact the key factors can be considered as the fact that the cooperative principles and values give us a focus,
certainly in the case of the membership of LARG
And there are other factors that could be considered,
such as the vocation of the large companies and that of the small companies,
because to some extent these companies are subsidizing and supporting the integration process.
Thanks. What benefits have the organisations acquired because of their membership of LARG?
Well, the main benefit has been that all the companies within the group can achieve
and use insurance treaties in very favourable conditions,
and we have also been able to set up a training programme for our support personnel in the various companies,
which guarantees that each company can make its executive staff ever more professional;
and a great benefit of integration is that we have been able to demonstrate to the cooperative world,
and the rest of the world as well, that joining forces means that we can do great work.
Thanks. What were the main challenges LARG came up against during its development?
Well, identifying and working with the same reinsurance contracts was a major challenge.
Another great challenge was starting processes without having defined the subscription policies;
we were likely to come up against some surprises, and this is what happened.
There were plenty of challenges, and plenty of challenges we came up against during the process which we did not consider at the outset.
There was apparently great willingness,
possibly moved by the need for protection that we did not value certain aspects during the starting phase.
A question. If other ICMIF members were to want to follow the model, what would you recommend, based on the lessons you have learned?
I believe that the most important thing is for everyone to look for the points we have in common.
It’s easier to work on the basis of the things we have in common than on the basis of our differences;
all the companies in the cooperative movement, as cooperative companies, have a lot in common,
and this is what we must look for.
And the other fundamental thing is trying to visualise the well-being of each of the organisations,
and groups of the type of LARG will always try to bring a better solution to our people.
Nowadays we are more oriented towards serving our members and our clients, and LARG believes in this vision.
Martha Julia and Amilcar, I would like to thank you very much for your cooperation.
Thank you too.
