Hey guys Dr. Ray Marquez here local chiropractor coming to you from Back
Pain Relief Center in Myrtle Beach. I hope all is well want to congratulate
all the Philly fans out there. Hey go Eagles. So that was great last night.
So neck pain and neck pain relief so what do we do about it? So there's a few
different reasons why you can get neck pain but I think the most prevalent
reason is from compressed dysfunctional vertebra. So we do something to make the
joint and our neck not work right and I think the number one culprit of all that
is our posture. With technology today with our cell phones with sitting down
working with driving all over the place there's all kind of factors that kind of
push our head forward and can compress those joints and cause us back pain. So
most spinal pain or neck or back pain comes from compressing the vertebral
joints and when the vertebral joints compress they become dysfunctional and
then when they become dysfunctional they begin to build up inflammation and that
inflammation buildup is typically from repetitively not moving correctly. So
that inflammation comes up and we begin to feel pain. Now the pain can be a lot
of different pain or a lot of different symptoms it could be aching it can be
sharp it can be dull it can feel like it's tight. Some people will have neck
pain that kind of they think is more of their shoulder or their upper trapezius
muscles so it can present itself in many different ways. It's not something that
you want to ignore and you know I've been dealing with us a long time and
when your neck gets really bad it's much more of an issue than when you're low
back it's bad and that's kind of my personal opinion on it but you don't
want to mess around with that neck because when you can't turn your head to
look at things life begins to get a little difficult. So compress joints lead
to dysfunction leads to inflammation which leads to pain. So on a personal
note my neck has been hurting and I'm actually having
tingling down my left arm and if you ever have to let down the left arm to
make sure you get over to your primary to the ER and get checked to make sure
it's not your heart but I know mine's not because I got it checked out so I'm
definitely coming from my neck and it's coming from my neck because I had the
flow about a week ago and I was laying on the sofa for a good four or five days
my head was pushed forward bad posture and I compressed my c6 c7 disc which I
already know is bad. And it's inflamed and now I'm dealing with it so I'm gonna
go over with you exactly what you need to do and exactly what I'm doing myself
to get it to feel better. So if your neck begins to hurt you the first thing I
want you to do is to ice your neck alright so no heat I want you to ice
your neck right where it's hurting for 20 minutes. More than 20 minutes is no
good you're gonna ice it ready for 20 minute mark and stop and do that at
least once a day. Best time to do it is a few hours before bed every single day
and begin to see if that makes a difference. And the difference you should
begin to see you should be able to move your neck just a little more without
feeling that discomfort. Be patient with it because it takes a few days so some
ice some ice will help. The next very most important thing is to get in to see
us and get it adjusted get it manipulated okay or get it cracked if
you want. Now what is it getting it adjusted do? Getting adjusted all's it
does is decompress the joint it unloads it takes pressure off the joint gets it
to work correctly. Now some people have a fear of getting their neck adjusted we
don't have to manually crack your neck in order to decompress it there's
instruments and manual techniques that we can use to still decompress that
joint so don't let being afraid to get your neck adjusted stop you from coming
to see us because there's a lot of ways that we can do it that are very
comfortable. So getting it adjusted is the number two thing very very important
to get that done because if you never unlock the joint if you never decompress
it then you're always going to have that pain or it'll begin to get worse.
Another thing that I'm going to be doing or well that I'll do with all my
patients is a form of home traction we get stretch the ligaments out in that
neck we got a decompress it by doing something every single night at home and
there's a few very easy techniques that we can show you
that and you don't have to go out and buy anything. We do have some traction
units so if doing it manually doesn't help. And the last thing that I do and
then I'm not necessarily recommend to you is I take some ibuprofen so I'm
trying to get the inflammation down as fast as possible and I'm taking the
ibuprofen because it's appropriate for me it may not be for you check with the
pharmacist pharmacist or your primary if there is an issue. The reason I'm taking
it because I'm getting a signal down my arm if you're neck pain gets to where
you're feeling it radiates to your shoulder or to your arm or to your hands
we're at the next level of complexity so I want to get things down as quickly as
possible. So the top things that need to be done are icing your neck getting it
adjusted tracking traction or stretching it out and some anti-inflammatories. Okay
and if you don't have a doctor that you can go to that give us a call we can
recommend a couple to refer you over to. Alright because sometimes you need a
team approach sometimes you need more than one type of doctor to get this
knocked out. Don't ignore it though because I'm gonna get to the point like
where I'm at it's just a little more complex takes a little longer to get
better. Alright I hope that helps you out here if you have any questions make sure
