Hi I'm Dan Tappmeyer, I'm a fourth year veterinary student and I cannot be more
excited about Doctor Evans winning the Kemper Award.
So, Dr. Evans has a larger than life personality,
and an enthusiasm that is probably unsurpassed. In his class, it's
routine for him to jump up and down, run around,
and in general kind of make a scene,
and he does it all with a purpose, and that is because when students get out
and become practicing veterinarians,
it's not important that they just passed the test on toxicology. If an
animal comes and is sick and needs help there are certain things that you need
to be able to recall and Dr. Evans goes above and beyond
in order to make sure that students can recall what they need to in those
instances.
After class, Dr. Evans goes around to a sampling of students and gets their
ideas as to how the lecture went.
The thing that really makes Dr. Evans unique is he has an alter ego,
the antidote, his super hero alter ego and he had make special appearances
as that person, or that superhero it is to try and drive home his
points about
different toxicological principles. Students are also very important to
Dr. Evans on just a personal level.
Sometimes for clinical students, we are stuck at the hospital
over holidays that maybe some of the other students get to go home for,
and Dr. Evans has invited students over to share Thanksgiving dinner with
him and his family.
In everything he does, he goes above and beyond, and I think that's what makes him
such unique person.
