As you can see, we're out in the great open outdoors. We've got our hills to the back
of us and the Rocky Mountains right to the left of us. It's important to scout the land
before a hunt. We're in the beginnings of spring so hunting season is long gone, but
what I like to do while I'm out here in the summertime, even in the early fall and even
sometimes in the early spring, is walk around and see where these animals are. And I'll
sit up on these ridges with a spotting scope or a pair of binoculars and look and see what
they're doing look and see what they're eating. If you're anywhere in the country you can
pick up on those things. All animals make trails. It's good to see where they're walking,
where their food sources are, what their habits are. Out here in the Rocky Mountains, it's
a little less predictable with these animals, but you can pick up on them pretty quick.
The elk like to hide out in these valleys in the cool, to keep cool in the late fall.
We'll sit there and we'll spot them for a little while to see what their habits are
going to be in the morning, where they're bedding down, where they're coming up. Just
having an understanding of them, putting a lot of time into scouting them.
