I’m Jon Van Caneghem, we’re here at the Ubisoft booth at E3 2011.
It’s actually quite a long time ago now, a 25 years anniversary.
I created the first one myself, on an Apple 2 computer… back when finishing college.
And it was quite an experience, I just wanted to make games, I thought it would be a lot of fun.
I wrote the first one myself, did the whole thing.
All the Might & Magic games were just so much fun to make, I really enjoyed every one of them,
from the first RPG’s to when I started making strategy games with Heroes.
I enjoyed playing them as much as I enjoyed making them.
So the original RPG’s became very popular,
then I decided to make a strategy series because my other love were strategy games.
I really never thought the strategy series would overshadow the RPGs,
but it was amazing how well it took off.
So many people love the series and they just kept getting better and better,
and I am happy they are both still going today.
After the end of New World, Ubisoft picked up the rights to Might & Magic.
I actually wanted to take some time off,
although Ubisoft made me an offer to come work on it.
I didn’t think I’d work in games anymore,
but [it only] lasted about nine months, and I was like, “all I did was play games”,
so I had to get back into it.
But I wound up working on some other games.
I’m extremely happy to see Might & Magic continue to be developed, new games coming out all the time.
It’s really great, to have started something, built 20 plus games and now there’s five-ten more that’s being built.
It’s really great, it makes me feel terrific.
And there’s other spin-off games as well, it’s absolutely amazing to me,
and I’m very happy that it’s continuing to go even though I’m not working on the latest ones.
So a message to my fans and the fans of the Might & Magic and the Heroes games,
thank you so much for all the support.
I love that you loved playing the previous games and the current games
and I hope that you’ll love the future games just as much.
I’m happy to be here at E3 at the Ubisoft booth 2011
and check out the next Might & Magic when it comes out.
