The Astrolabium Choir's new CD release has a particular meaning to me!
It is going to be the third CD devoted exclusively to my music, but the first one totally focused on my choral pieces.
Another exceptional fact is, that I have had a triple role regarding to the production process:
first of all -- as a composer of course; second of all -- as an assisting conductor and tutor during many rehearsals;
and eventually -- I have been working as a sound engineer and music producer of the entire CD.
I am absolutely aware that I might have been demanding
and that the choir might have felt annoyed by remarks and comments of mine.
Nevertheless, I do hope that the final result is going to be worth all of these efforts.
The CD recordings include works written between 1995 and 1999 -- a selection of my choral compositions.
The person who has decided on the choice of these pieces is the conductor of the Astrolabium Choir -- Kinga Litowska.
She has taken into consideration both her own preferences as well as the fact
that some of these works have had an important meaning for the history of the choir.
It is worth mentioning, that the Astrolabium has been performing my music
within various Polish and foreign -- international festivals and competitions for many years.
In most cases, these performances' perception has been very positive
including both the audience and jury panels.
Couple of times, my music has had a strong impact on positive competitions' results.
This pattern applies also to the very important „Grand Prix" award at the international choir competition in Rome (in 2011)!
As a composer I feel -- of course -- very proud of it...
[Thank you! Keep silent after finishing...]
[Much better! The intonation was almost OK, but the first "piano" sounds a little bit risky...]
[That is the question of holding the tension...]
[And be careful at the end of the 4-bar phrase...]
[And the next one starts with "Krzy-", "Aż", "Spraw"...]
[Everything should be precise and "vertically" correct!]
[Concentration! And the recording starts!]
On the CD, there are lenten compositions sung in Polish: „Stabat Mater" and „People, my people",
as well as the „Guardian Angel Prayer" which I personally like very much.
There also appear latin pieces such as the hymn to Mary „Ave maris stella",
the „Vulnerasti cor meum" setting with lyrics excerpts from the Song of Songs
and my almost cult-composition -- the „Veni Sancte Spritus".
It is good to know, that the „Stabat Mater" has its' firstrecording, although it has been written in 1995 (and later performed many times)!
My music is being featured by the magnificent choir from Toruń -- The Astrolabium Choir
-- directed by the outstanding choral conductor -- Kinga Litowska.
The soprano solo part belongs to the former „Astro-Chorist" -- Aleksandra Turalska.
I am really pleased to announce, that the CD we have been together working on hard
(from spring to fall 2012) will be available soon!
I hope that the release is going to gain recognition among choral music listeners...
Release in May 2013!
