We visited Oumar Primary School in Bredjing a couple of days ago
to film the central meeting assembly.
Two or three afternoons a week, there are literacy classes
and this particular class is for young men.
Most of these young men work in the market, which is right outside the school
and so they can't go to school anymore. You see some of them are a little older, which is nothing unusual.
But, with the starting of the literacy classes by CORD, since the beginning of the year
they decided that they can come, and it's also an opportunity for them to have education.
One or two of these guys, you see, are just a little older. In fact, there's even one of the guards of the school
that sits at the back. And this really is the very basic equivalent of A, B, C.
These guys really have nothing at all.
But, we've got some very, very basic learning books for them.
And they're trying. And that gives them skills enough.
And they study numeracy as well. And who knows, what for the future for them.
Because literacy benefits everybody. Even, if you can go to the hospital
and read how many times you have to take the parasitanol
what to do in terms of hygiene for you and your family.
Education benefits absolutely everybody.
