To God be the Glory. The honor and the praise.
I give Him,
I give God all the glory. Every good and perfect gift comes from
my heavenly Father. I thank God for the victory.
And the opportunity to praise Him.
You know
We tell our guys you to got to keep playing stop. Don't stop playing.
You got to persevere. From
play to play and game to
game,
you got to be
tough minded and physically tough.
You got to compete at a high level.
You got to move on to the next play
and you can't take plays off. You just got to grind. You got to grind.
For me this game epitomized that.
Just keep playing and keep grinding.
Being tough minded and physically tough.
When you play Buffalo
they physically are going to try to
come at you. You have to, You have to
grind.
You got to be tough physically and mentally.
And Jehvon Clarke, I thought he really epitomized that today.
He ran our team, he started to cramp some, but he ran our team.
10 rebounds from his spot
and nine assists, three turnovers, 11 points
and it was the little things he did.
He came back for a,
he came back to the ball to get
a save and if he didn't the other kid would have stole it.
He just, he just
I thought he epitomized that tough hard-nosed point guard play.
I thought our big guys, I thought they did a really good job
battling and scrapping. You know it was a physical game, but
Spencer, Richaun, Cam the front line work.
I thought we did a really good job. I thought we got a really big lift from our bench
just by being solid and doing their job.
JD, Josh and
Damarkeo so. This is a really good team win.
All the stats that we want to try to win every game
we won. Points in the paint, points off turnovers, second chance points, fast break points
and I though defensively we really did a great job on Javon McCrea. We crowded him
and we made him earn everything.
I thought that was big because he's
he's a load, he's tough and I
thought we did it as a team.
So I tip my hat to our guys
and credit them.
They kept grinding.
They kept persevering.
Reporter: We you talk a little bit about the last four minutes, first of all
defensively because you had that 12-0 run
and the key probably was the "0"
part of that zero. Did you do something different?
Did you do something better? In your eyes.
You know what, that's when Cam and Anthony
came back in the game
during that stretch and I thought that was big.
And then Josh came in, but I thought again the points in the paint, I thought we did a good job
of crowding the post and shutting down the paint.
I thought, you know,
Richaun had five blocks and I don't know how many he had
in that stretch. I thought also that
rebounding, defensive rebounding.
They might have got some second shots, but they didn't really hurt us with them.
And then we didn't foul. We kept them off the free throw line which was big.
And we were able to get to the free throw line.
We didn't turn the ball over which lead to
fast break points. There is a number of things, but again
I tip my hat to our guys. Our second half defense, I just looked,
31 percent, 38 for the game.
We talked about it and we said we got to defend and rebound
and we got to limit our turnovers. I thought
we did that, especially in the second half.
And the way we ended the first half I thought was big. I thought it was a momentum
builder,
confidence builder.
You know the last play of the half where we scored at the buzzer I thought
that was big. A defensive stop to a fast break basket.
So how you end and begin half's I think can go a long way.
Reporter: Will you talk a little bit, you mentioned about how this team keeps playing and keeps grinding and things like that,
that has got to be tough
when you have gone through a stretch where you have lost your last two and to come back and to keep playing hard ...
How tough is that?
You know in this, in this sports
and in this age of instant what have you done for me
right now mentality from the media, the fans,
you can't get caught up in that. You got to see the big picture.
You said we lost two in a row, but
they got to remember they won three in a row before that.
So just because you lose two games doesn't make you a bad team.
You know, you got to remember,
you ain't going to win every battle.
That's just life. In anything, you are not going to win every
fight, your not going to win every battle, but if you
keep getting up. There is a story in the Bible,
David and Goliath. And before David was going to fight Goliath,
King Saul asked him, how are you going to fight this guy
he has been a fighting man from his youth. And first of all David knew that God was on his side
and that God would give him the victory.
But secondly he remembered his past victories where he had slain the lion and the
bear. And it is important for our guys and our team
to remember past successes. I mean,
because that let's you know what you have accomplished before.
If you just listen to the voices, it is always
about right now. But if you look around, and
I wish, I wish more people would, look around, look around the country at the ups and downs, the peaks and valleys
every team goes through.
It is a part of a season. And we are in a season.
A season is not two games. It's not two losses.
It's not three wins. A season is a
season. It's a season. So you just move on to the next game.
One play, one possession at a time. One game at a time.
So sometimes you
listen to the doom and the gloom, you know you
can believe it. You can believe it.
But you can't, you just can't.
Reporter: Will you talk, maybe not about the technical, but the
way that technical foul that was called on their coach
it looked like that gave you guys a little bit of a spurt there.
Did you see that or am I making something up?
It gave us points. I'll take the points.
So you know, you know
I think Spencer, I think he made both of them (reporter - he did)
I'm not sure. Then Richaun made one out of two so it game us three points. I don't know if we got the ball back,
probably not, I am not sure, but it gave us points.
I can't manage their bench or whatever
but I do know that, I think we might have been behind so we needed the points.
Reporter: Can you talk a little bit about
Spencer Parker's play?
Yeah you know what, I probably,
I probably owe him
more credit
sometimes than I give him.
Spencer is an attack guy and he really is one of our
most competitive and
aggressive guys and
terms of how he plays the game.
He played 39 minutes, 23 points, seven rebounds
got to the line 14 times.
That's a great day's work.
He keeps the
scoreboard moving a lot of times with the way he attacks the rim
and the way he gets to the free throw line.
But you're right. He had a big game for us.
He is just an attack and aggressive guy.
And he doesn't mind putting his body out there every play.
He's done a lot and
he will continue to do a lot
because he is an aggressive player. He's a competitive guy.
Reporter: They hit six three's in the first, but were 2 of 15 in the second half,
do you feel you guys were able to get out and defend the three a little better?
I thought we did, you know. I know Richaun blocked one,
maybe two. And you know what though,
you on the road, second half, a hard fought game, sometimes the
three's aren't as easy to make in the second half.
But I thought we defended the three better. You know they are a tough team.
They run some good offense.
You know, they keep you off balance.
But I thought we did a better job of covering the three.
That was our concern with the zone. They seemed to
hit some three's against our zone, so we tried to pick our spots.
But I thought we did a good job, a better job the second half. They still had
some looks, but like I said in the second half sometimes it is a little tougher to keep making three's.
Reporter: Although, we were outscored by four points on the bench can you talk
a little bit about Josh Gomez and Tisdale's play tonight?
Hey, you know Josh,
you know,
it's important that you know that even though you don't always get the minutes
you never, you never give up
and I think for him it's been hard to a degree not playing
and that's okay because you always want guys that want to play.
But I always encourage him
to keep, don't stop the work. The work don't stop. Stay upbeat and
I thought he had, really he had a couple of really good days
in practice. I just thought his mind was in a good place.
You know, I challenge Josh every day,
you got to be focused from beginning to the end.
Practice, everything we do.
And I thought he had good focus this week. We needed him. We needed him.
I thought he did a good job. I thought he did a good job.
JD, you know I talked to him
about just doing, just knowing and doing his job
and keep playing through whatever.
Just keep working to get better.
I think that is very important that individually and collectively you keep improving.
And I thought he had a couple of good days of practice.
You know, he wants to be on the court and he's not afraid. That's one thing I will say, he's not afraid.
And he's learning. But he got two big defensive rebounds.
Two big defensive rebounds and that's the reason we put him in the game because
we were going small, but we needed a guard in there that could rebound.
And he did it. He did his job. And that's one thing I emphasize with him,
know your job and do your job. That's true with everybody.
You got to know your job and do your job
and JD gave us a big lift and he played through his mistakes
and I thought it was a good day for him.
Reporter: Is there any new news on Craig Sealey or Zack Denny and their injuries?
Zack practiced some the
last couple of days.
Craig, you know, seems to be feeling better.
But, their body will tell them when they are ready to play.
When their body tells them then I will know.
They got to have practice time. They got to feel good about, not just the
next day or the next game, but
the next games physically. But my prayer is that God will continue to heal their bodies
and that they will be able to play.
They will know when their body is ready.
