Hey Everybody! Welcome to Everglades & Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area.
This is one of the most unique places in the world.
Today, I'm meeting a couple of local biologists, Missy and Dan...
We're going to go out in the airboat with them and they're going to tell us all about it!
Let's go check it out!
Hi, my name is Missy Juntunen and I'm the area lead biologist for Everglades Wildlife Management Area.
It's over 600,000 acres and it's located in Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade counties.
So some hunting opportunities that area available on the Everglades Wildlife Management area include...
Deer and hogs which we offer three non-quota hunts for including archery, muzzleloader, and general gun.
Other hunts include waterfowl, we have snipe, frogging is really popular, we have an alligator season, we have small game, and migratory birds.
There are many other opportunities to enjoy the nature.
People like to come out and fish in our area canals, we also have camping, wildlife viewing, and as you can see this is a perfect area for recreational airboating.
One of the most fascinating habitats in the Everglades complex Wildlife Management Areas are tree island habitats.
These tree island habitats are very important because they provide refugia for wildlife during hight water events. They provide very important forage areas...
roosting habitats, and nesting habitats as well. And that's why a lot of our restoration efforts take place in these tree islands.
And that involves things like exotic species removal, native species planting, and also prescribed burning.
We also have miles and miles of canals that attract people from all over for our fishing opportunities.
You come down to catch largemouth bass and other game species. And we have boat ramps a plenty. You can always find a place to put in somewhere.
