Phenotype, a la Shmoop. Phenotype is the set of observable traits
an individual has, like height or eye color. Genotype is, quite simply, what genes you
have.
So… don’t count the ones you’ve given to Goodwill.
But even though organisms may share genes…
… they’re not always expressed in the same way.
Think about twins. Haven’t you noticed that one is always good
and one is always evil?
This is because genes don’t have the final word on the traits of an organism
The environment also affects the expression of genes and the characteristics of that individual.
This list of traits is called a phenotype. So… if you cloned Genghis Khan today, he
might not become a marauding warrior. He might be a barista.
If he gets your name wrong on your cup, probably best not to
correct him.
