On behalf of expertv8illage.com, I'm Jim Koch and today we are talking about auto lockouts
and in this clip we are going to talk more specifically about the keys we can and can't
make and how you are going to deal with it. This is an example of a key we can make. This
is a Ford key here; any key that doesn't have a rubber head doesn't have Vats system. Now
when they do have a rubber head they may have a vats system. We are going to show you how
to make a key. The first thing we are going to do is clamp it up on the vice. We are going
to verify that it is all lined up nice and straight. Once the key is clamped to the machine,
you verify that it is lined up. This machine is just a simple tracing machine. It is going
to take the cuts on the primary key and cut them into the secondary key. So basically
once you've got it all lined up, you turn your machine on and you begin tracing it.
Once you have cut the key all the way down and you back trace it to make sure that you
didn't miss anything and that is the first side of your key. Once the first side of the key is cut, you
flip the key over and this is only for double sided keys and some cars have single, some
have double. I've noticed in recent years that more manufacturers have gone to double
sided key. Once the first side is done, the second side is all chucked up, you just begin
tracing it like you did the first side and then you back trace the key to make sure you
didn't miss any spots and there is always a couple little that you did. Once that part
is done, clean the key up on the wire brush to get rid of any burs and voila, you have
an exact duplicate.
