Hello Everyone, Happy Friday! Well week two is underway, and you guys are doing great
creating blog posts. I love this video that I’ve shared with you guys. It’s been around
for a few years, but every time I watch it I relate to a different part. I have been
using this video in my online classes for a couple of years, and it’s interesting
to see the parts that you guys pick out too, because it changes every semester. This semester,
obviously the financial crisis, or economic state of the US is weighing in – many of
you commented on the $20,000 debt that a large number of college graduates will have by the
time they graduate. It is very true, and it didn’t use to be a big deal because you
would graduate and get a job paying 60 – 70 thousand a year and knock down that debt in
a few years. But today, having a bachelor’s degree is like having a high school diploma
10 or 15 years ago. I think this is a big sign that our society
as a whole is changing. And technology is a driving factor. We are expecting that everyone
is more educated and has technology skills. It’s becoming taboo to not know how to use
a computer. And you can see the frustration of younger generations when they have to interact
with older generations who are not as tech-savvy. So I think it is important to learn as much
as possible and find ways to infuse technology into whatever we can – being on the leading
edge could be the thing that sets you apart from the person next to you.
Ok, enough philosophy – this is an Excel class right? Yes, it is. This week’s assignments
provided you with an introduction to Office. I wanted you to see what other applications
were available with the Office Suite since they are commonly found in offices. Next week
we will jump into Excel. We will start of slow, but be performing complex tasks in no
time! I hope you are enjoying the class and the interaction on the blogs so far, hopefully
it will just get more fun and exciting as we go. Don’t forget I am always here to
help if you have questions. Talk to you soon.
