Hi, my name is Sheryl McGlochlin with crazysheryl.com and on behalf of Expertvillage.com we like
to welcome you today. We want to talk about how to actually walk in some different positions
when you are snowshoeing. Lots of time you will not be able to just walk straight ahead
like this you would have to maneuver in different directions. We are going to talk about side
stepping. You have to be able to pick up your foot and we are going to do a little demonstration
here. You just pick up your foot and step to the right or whichever direction. You need
to be able to pick up your foot high enough as you are dealing with powder snow it may
be a little bit more challenging. We would see if we can get in some deeper snow here.
This foot flaps a lot so you would have to pick up your foot otherwise you would be tripping
on your leg. Lots of times to be able to maneuver and get around different objects you would
have to go sideways instead of forward. This is a good exercise to practice in a school,
in a school yard or a in a park, someplace before you actually go up in the mountains.
So you can get some of these skills down before you actually go up to a wilderness area. That
is how you side step.
