The Le Mans type departure is always one of the gripping moments at the 'Le Mans Classic' weekend.
So tell me, what car are you racing?
I'm racing the Porsche 904 which is here, in grid four,
and a 1953 'Porsche 356' in grid two, and a Chevron B36 BMW in grid six
Can you tell us about the 904?
It's a 904, frame number 006, a former works car which took part in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1964, driven by Koch & Schiller, and which finished, which finished tenth!
That makes it an interesting, historic car since it also finished second at the Monte-Carlo rally in 65, driven by DERINGER...
It's the only time a 904 has been entered in a rally of this level and with such a result!
What type of engine is it?
It's the original two-litre engine, four cylinder, twin ignition,
and it was altered to suit the changes of the times, so a six cylinder engine could be used. It was re-approved with a six cylinder engine, but still in the two-litre class!
So it's a very pleasant car to drive whether on a circuit or a road, since it's a car that was approved at the time for road racing and a certain number of these cars were used in rallies in France such as the Tour Auto, the Rallye des routes du Nord, etc.
It's a car which was really suited to all types of uses, before the excessive specialisation of cars at the end of the sixties.
So it's a car very easy to drive, there's a central engine and very powerful disk brakes. It's relatively light since it weighs approximately 650 kilos, and it's extremely easy to drive! It's a real treat!
Hi Stanley
Hi, how are you?
Fine and you?
Oh I have a great time.
It is the first time you come to Le Mans Classic?
No no no, this is the 5th time, we have raced every time it's been here.
Twice we won it and twice we did not finish, so maybe today will take a shot at winning again.
Stanley, how long do you own the car?
I've had the car for about 10 years, the fellow I bought it from made me trade it for a Abarth Carrera that I owned, liked that car too, but I like this car better, it fits me better, I have a lot of fun.
We run it at Nürburgring, we run it Laguna Seca, we run it Daytona Beach International Speedway, we race it everywhere we can.
it's a wonderful car; we are having a lot of fun with it.
you run on the grid 4?
Yeah yeah, grid 4, so we go out second. My partner here Yves Junne, who runs it better than I do, will start and I will take over halfway.
During the race when we have a driver change.
So,Yves? What was it like?
Everything went fine! But... since the last three laps, it's been covered with oil. There are those who want to take a risk with their car and those who are careful!
So I was careful because I really wanted Stanley to be able to drive the car!
What are the sensations at the wheel?
It's perfect! Perfect. There's a good engine, sound road holding, so everything's fine!
Everything's going as you like?
Everything's fine!
