A Washington, D.C. cop is under investigation after allegedly making death threats against
First Lady Michelle Obama. MSNBC has more.
“The Washington Post reported the officer told colleagues he planned to shoot Mrs. Obama
and showed a photo of the gun he would use. But other officials say it was just a bad
joke.”
According to WRC — the officer under investigation works in the Special Operations division.
That division handles presidential motorcades in the city. Internal Affairs is currently
looking into the threat and...
“...they don't believe it conveyed an actual intent to harm her.”
D.C. police have not released the name of the officer under investigation, but say he
has been moved to desk duty for now. To that — a blogger for Web Pro News says...
“The fact that the office in-question was temporarily assigned to a desk job as opposed
to being suspended pending an investigation is a little baffling, not to mention extremely
unsettling.”
And a writer for The Atlantic Wire suggests — even if it was an empty threat, it’s
still a pretty big deal.
“Most likely it was just talk, and the story even notes that there's ‘no indication of
a legitimate threat.’ But still, you want the people guarding the first family to take
their safety seriously, not threaten it.”
Finally, a writer for The Examiner notes, it’s probably not too uncommon for the first
family to be the target of violent threats — and even though this one may have come
from a cop...
“As always, The Obama's are under the protection of several police, security, and secret service
members.”
