bjbj Hello and welcome, My name is Trevor Daniel Ruiz, and I will be your host for today
s overview of ARC. For the next few minutes that we have together, I want to captivate
your attention and talk about some of the adventures I had and what I learned while
at ARC. First though, I want to give you a little bit of background information on ARC
and the motives behind it, along with who and what are pushing it forward in our community.
Second, I would enjoy very much detailing my experience with my coworkers at ARC. Third
and lastly, I would like to convey to you, my dear audience, the personal interview of
which I conducted and attained through the assistant manager, Emily Kubic. So to begin
this story, we have to start off with the background information. ARC used to stand
for the Association of Retarded Citizens. However, this is not exactly a politically
correct term. So, instead of changing the name, the folks in charge have left us with
this acronym in its place. One of the ARC value village thrift store and donation centers
, the one where I volunteered and conducted this interview, is located at 6330 Brooklyn
Boulevard in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota. s Value Village Thrift Stores and Donation Centers
offer quality merchandise donated by Twin Cities individuals and businesses. Arc s Value
Village is owned and operated by ARC Greater Twin Cities, which provides advocacy and support
for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. s mission
statement is : To secure for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
and their families the opportunity to realize their goals of where and how they live, learn,
work, and play. At ARC, you are able to shop, donate, and volunteer. If you choose to shop,
ARC offers an ever-changing array of used and new clothing and household items. Merchandise
is neatly displayed and restocked daily. Whether you shop because it s eco-friendly, because
you re thrifty, or just for the thrill of the hunt, shopping is easy and fun for everyone.
If you choose to donate, ARC accepts donations 7 days a week and will also provide a tax
receipt. Not only does ARC accept clothes, accessories, linens, furniture, appliances,
etcetera, ARC also accepts vehicles including cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, ATVs, boats,
and personal watercrafts. All donations that are in good condition are tax deductable.
For more information please visit HYPERLINK "http://www.irs.gov" www.irs.gov If you choose
to volunteer, opportunities are available for individual or groups. Volunteers are 70%
of the store workforce. Your time and effort help generate $1.7 million annually to support
ARC programs and services. The proceeds go to the one in ten families in our community
with a person who has an intellectual or developmental disability. The second installment of this
show involves me recanting my time well spent at ARC with my coworkers. It happened on a
Saturday afternoon for three hours. We spent the time sorting clothes that people had dropped
off. There were bags upon bags of clothes and an assortment of other objects that kept
coming in as a steady stream. It was unbelievable what some people gave away and probably should
have just thrown away. The items that we sorted were then moved to a second station where
the actual employees continued to filter out the rejects. It was a very hands-on job. The
third act of the show is the interview that I conducted with the assistant manager of
ARC in Brooklyn Center. Her name is Emily Kubic and it s pretty obvious that she has
a big heart. She used to work for corporate retail. Hence, why she works with all the
clothes and other items. Second, she used to work at the YMCA. Hence, the big heart
and love for volunteering and working with others to help others. She likes how it is
a non-profit company. She found the position through word-of-mouth. And above all, she
wants to make a positive change for the world and the community. The rest of the interview
involves the majority of the information that I have already spoken on earlier on our program.
I would personally like to say thank you to the folks at ARC for letting me use this information
publicly. And I would also like to thank Emily Kubic for taking the time out of her busy
schedule to let me sit down on the floor next to her and conduct this interview amidst the
mass of shuffling feet and clothes. h!3^ h%3; h%3; h%3; [Content_Types].xml Iw}, $yi} _rels/.rels
