My name is Bancha Kaewprasert.
I was born in Phichit.
Phichit is located in the lower
Northern region of Thailand about
340 kilometers north of Bangkok.
The name of the city has changed
several times.
Originally it was called Sra Luang,
which means "City of the Royal Pond".
Its current name,
Phichit, means "Beautiful City".
The Nan and Yom Rivers flow through
Phichit province and join together just
before the Chao Phraya is formed.
Phichit is famous for their Pad Thai. It's called Phichit Pad Thai. This p articular Pad Thai is unique to Phichit.
There are long green beans in the Pad Thai, which is very different
One of the main ingredients in Pad Thai is Tamarind paste. Tamarind is a popular crop in Phichit
since the Nan and Yom Rivers flow though it, making the ground very fertile.
Makham Kaeo is a popular treat from Phichit. It is made from the tamarind fruit and coated in sugar, making it a making it
a kind of candy that is sour, salty, sweet and just a bit pungent.
Actually, there is a very famous folk story from Phichit called Chalawan. It’s the tale of King Crocodile.
And today, there is a huge statue of Chalawan at Bueng Si Fai Lake.
Bueng Si Fai is the 3rd largest lake in Thailand.
The story goes that Chalawan, the Crocodile King, lived in a golden cave underneath the waters of Phichit, where he would
transform from a crocodile and into a handsome man upon entry. One day he kidnapped a beautiful lady and took
her to his cave and tricked her into falling in love with him. Efforts to get free from Chalawan were unsuccessful,
until one day a young man named Kraithong, used a magic spear to kill the Crocodile King.
It's a symbol of Phichit. Everyone who visits Phichit stops there to take pictures with the huge crocodile statue.
Based upon what customers order at this restaurant, Pad Thai. Pretty much every table gets an order of Pad Thai.
And then, I would say chicken stay, as well as soups such as Tom Yum Goong.
Noodle dishes have been around for centuries,
but the dish “Pad Thai” was formally
promoted as an actual dish during
World War II. At the time, the Prime Minister
wanted to reduce rice consumption during
the war because the Thai economy was
based largely on rice exports.
So the government launched a
campaign to teach the people how to
make rice noodle and encourage them
to open noodle resaurants.
Tom Yum Goong is a spicy clear soup
with shrimp. It’s characterized by its
distinct hot and sour flavors.
And the primary ingredients – lemon grass,
kaffir lime leaves, galangal, lime juice,
fish sauce and crushed peppers –
are found in nearly all Thai dishes.
Tom Yum is also ordered with chicken, seafood
and other proteins, but shrimp by far
the most popular.
