This is a prototype of the speed mechanical variator, which is a mechanism for the automatically and continuously transmission of rotary motion.
The mechanism works without gears and without friction.
It works with dynamic masses that accelerate and decelerate.
A series of functional units constitutes the mechanism, in this prototype there are six functional units, they are and held between two flanges and their internal driving shafts are connected.
The input pulley is connected to the input of the mechanism that is to the driving shaft of the mechanism.
The exit pulley is connected to the output of the mechanism, that is the driven shaft.
In entry we have the driving shaft, in exit the driven shaft.
The driving shaft and the driven shaft are free to rotate between them.
The mechanism is connected to an electric motor through a strap.
An inverter powers the electric motor and it can change the motor angular velocity.
A weight has been applied on the driven shaft and it produces a torque.
Through the potentiometer of the inverter one begins to rotate the driving shaft of the mechanism.
Initially, the weight remains on the ground, but increasing the angular velocity it begins to climb.
Decreasing the motor angular velocity it goes down.
[The pulley connected to the engine rotates only in clockwise but sometimes the stroboscopic effect may made it appear rotating counterclockwise.]
At a certain angular velocity of the motor, the weight remains firm and suspended.
The couple transmitted by the mechanism to the output shaft varies automatically and continuously and it depends to the number of angular velocity of the driving shaft.
When the weight is firm and suspended it means that the couple at the exit of the mechanism is equal to the couple produced by the weight.
Varying the weight, and therefore the value of the applied torque, in order to keep constant the angular velocity in the output shaft, we must adequately vary the angular velocity in the driving shaft.
The mechanism can work in both the senses of direction.
The mechanism can work also by reversing the entry shaft with the exit shaft.
