We are here with Tiziano Salmi
who in the ICT sector is the Senior Vice President of,
Architecture & Application Solutions,
we would like to analyse the project with
him from the perspective of the rationalisation of ENI's applications,
as he has been concerned with this.
As part of this ICT Transformation programme,
exploiting the opportunity of technological change offered by Cloud
and by the modification and transformation of the operating model,
we have included a programme to rationalise
the number of ENI's applications.
The slogan of this project is that of
making ENI's IT systems light, fast, and simple.
Its acronym is KMM, Kill, Modify, Maintain,
with the goal of reducing the number of applications
currently existing in ENI.
The rationalisation of the applications pool
from a Cloud perspective,
so as a simplification of the functioning model,
should, must, bring us important results
concerning management costs.
The way in which the applications were chosen mainly
involves three aspects:
technological obsolescence
and thus the transformation of IT into a newer, more recent
more innovative form;
use of the applications,
so we looked especially hard at little used applications;
and the importance of applications with respect to business.
How did you set about
choosing the applications to deal with in the project?
Well, the applications were chosen
by examining the oldest ones
therefore those we identified as obsolete.
The other important element
was analysing the applications we consider "core" ones,
core for business,
therefore supporting the various business
initiatives and processes we use at ENI.
A further element was that of analysing
the type of use made of the applications.
We realised many applications
are mainly used to analyse
past data,
so we identified a different and less expensive
way to analyse this data,
isolating these applications.
Mr Salmi, a final question:
what objectives have you set yourselves
in terms of rationalisation?
Well, the objectives are important from my perspective.
Our target is to reduce
the applications currently in use
within ENI by 20%
This will clearly have important and good
consequences even regarding management costs.
Therefore, to conclude, light,
fast, and simple?
Yes, this project will make ENI's IT systems
light, fast, and simple.
Thank you.
