Q: What exactly happened to require surgery?
A: Well, I partially broke the meniscus in my knee when I stood up. They took a picture (x-ray) of my knee. I couldn’t straighten my leg at all. I still wanted to fight though.
Q: So it is amazing how you beat Alistair with an injury like that.
A: It is amazing to me. The day before I called my team together to talk about it, and they said it was my choice. K-1 wasn’t happy because they built the whole event around our match. Charlie, my manager and friend said to me that you might regret not fighting if you don’t as you never know what will happen in a fight. I won, and was very happy. If I didn’t fight everyone would be talking about how I was scared…
Q: This is your third time against Melvin. You beat him twice already. Do you think it will be an easy fight?
A: Fighting Melvin is never easy, and stepping into the ring alone is never easy. I always respect my opponent. They might train even harder than I do. I have trained very hard for this match. If I thought it was easy I wouldn’t have trained so hard, but I prepared a lot. Melvin might be shorter than I am, but he is never an easy fight.
Q: Melvin said you are good at making fighters forget their game plan in the ring. How do you feel about this?
A: Well, maybe that’s a good thing. If someone gets angry they lose their ability to think clearly and fight. It is a good thing. Yeah, I am happy if I make them angry.
