- My name is Cindy and I sing in the band.
- I'm Ariel, I play synths and guitar.
- Jonathan, I play the drums and some percs.
- In Pendentif, I play bass. I'm Matthieu.
- And I'm Ben. I sing and play the guitar.
We liked the name Pendentif
because it's a masculine object
but essentially worn by girls.
We liked the ambivalence.
- It's full of emotion.
Just like us.
We talk a lot about our personal experiences, about what happened in our teens,
what you could call a lost paradise,
the initial feelings you try to find again later in life.
We recorded a first 4-track EP in 2011
including Pendentif, Riviera...
We also released a music video last July
for a track called Jerricane.
The video is action-packed, colourful,
set in unusual places.
- This video has a very beachy vibe to it,
but in fact it was shot in Bordeaux's suburbs.
We recorded in a great place
near Bordeauxin the countryside.
It's called Studio Berduquet.
- With Antoine Gaillet, a first studio session
to record 3 tracks went really great
so we wanted to record the album with him.
He has a lot of experience.
He's worked with artists like M83, Julien Doré...
We spent the two weeks together,
which is quite rare, so
that was nice.
Each track has its own production.
We didn't try and do one single production for the whole album.
There are tracks that we wanted to sound like
like Tennis.
Others we wanted to sound electro
or like Chromatics...
- Today we're releasing the video to Embrasse Moi
so we're really happy about that.
We've been working on it for a few months.
We worked with someone called Steven Monteau
who already directed the video to Jerricane
with whom we really get along.
He took some promotional pictures for us
so there's a real collaboration with him
and we like him very much.
It's kind of the same vibe as the video to Jerricane with fast cuts.
We used a lot of fruit.
My character is put forward a lot.
You see the boys making music in the background
and in the end you realize
they are actually girls,
that it's girls playing
and you've got that sensual,
feminine side which is echoed in the lyrics.
- And it's got a good rythm to it. - Yes, and in the end the boys are the ones being tricked.
That's it ! Too bad for them !
It was wonderful meeting La Grande Sophie
because she shared the Olympia stage with us
and that will remain a great memory.
Then being the opening act for Indochine's big gigs
that was really daunting and
amazing at the same time which is a good way to learn, I think.
We talk a lot about love, friendship,
memories as well, from our childhood,
memories of breaking up...
A lot of my influences are hip-hop
and R'n'B.
I listen to Frank Ocean, The Weeknd...
- Mine are Phoenix, Mac Demarco,
Chromatics.
- My influences are rather rock to start with,
rather American rock and Brit Pop.
- I'm into all the new pop stuff too,
electro pop,
Chromatics, Toro y Moi...
- What unites us is that we love music
that is sensual and sexy
seductive music,
I'm thinking about Tellier or
or Gainsbourg for instance.
They're both *** music writers.
- We totally make sexy music.
It'd be great if people made love to our music.
