I really enjoy the lectures hear as they're very interactive.
We have direct teaching from practitioners who are experiencing Social Work first hand.
The Social Work degree at Staffordshire University is delivered by experienced lecturers that have worked for many years in social work and social care.
This gives us a real insight into the challenges in the awards of these roles.
Practice placements are in a wide variety of statutory, private, independent and involuntary settings.
There is lots of support whilst on placement from qualified social workers,
practice educators and the university's personal and practice development tutors.
The University is always looking to develop new and exciting placements as well as continuing to work
With established placement settings to provide us with an excellent learning opportunity.
Hello, my name is Pam.
I'm a student on a Social Work degree at Staffordshire University.
My social placement will be at Aspire Housing in the Independent Living team.
The team offers a full range of services
including extra schemes and support.
In the community lifeline service I support customers in a person-centred manner.
To make improvements to their well-being, quality of life
And to remain living independently in their own homes.
My Staffordshire University tutor and my own educator.
I experienced social workers and working closely partnership to assess my competency.
And ensure I meet the professional occupational standard for social work
I really enjoyed the teaching methods on the course which allows me access to learning
at a time it is convenient for me.
The part time route provides the flexibility I need to manage study, work and family commitments.
And as a part-time student I still get access to all the university facilities.
The face to face sessions are taught by same experienced lectures as the full time route.
But the blended learning approach including the use academic software.
Enables me to engage in independence study at a time that suits me.
The University and placement agencies have also been flexible
in meeting the needs of part time students.
Spending time in settings like this gives us practical experience.
Of what we learn in the actual classroom.
This Community House is one of the three skills labs we use.
It's fully equipped with recording equipment to provide a complete assessment.
Of the skills we need to develop for Social Work Practice.
These skills include communication, assessment,
interviewing and responding to the service user needs.
Service users have won two national awards for their skills practice work.
On the social work degree and continue to provide formative feedback,
which helps prepare us for practice.
